Chapter 8 - What is Honor?

As Mada and the group ventured through the forest on their way back to the Zibiru settlement, he felt a light tap on his shoulder.

"Hey Mada, have you noticed it?"

when he turned his head It was Lucus who had tried to get his attention, for some reason Lucus's attention was focused on the three men behind them.

"Noticed what?" Mada responded in a low whisper to match Lucus's tone.

He didn't understand what his comrade was getting at. He thought that the three men were there to help them so he didn't look too much into their appearances.

"All three of them are wearing the same uniform as the group that attacked the settlement earlier today. They are a part of the group that wants to form the union," Lucus's voice began to crack as both he and Mada peered at the men with anticipation.

Mada and Lucus had both stopped walking, this action had caused the other members of the group to do so as well.

"What's the hold-up?" Kuma asked with a hint of concern in his voice.

Kuma began to become suspicious of the two men that were leading them to their destination. Without anyone noticing, he sent a quick signal with his hand to tell his followers to be on their guard.

"It's nothing. You four go ahead for awhile, I need to speak with Lucus in private," Mada replied while trying to reassure the others that everything was fine.

Kuma and his two guards turned around thinking nothing of the two men. Due to the frightened look on Lucus's face, they thought he was a new recruit and was just worried about being out for the first time. Kuma and his men began to walk down the path, leaving Trayner standing alone staring at Lucus and Mada.

"What's really going on?" Trayner asked Mada in a low tone.

While this question didn't catch Mada off guard, he ignored Trayner's question and turned back to face Lucus while waving his hand to signal him to continue walking. Mada had no intention of involving the child in their suspicions. This was due to him feeling that there wasn't anything that Trayner could add that would help their predicament. After Trayner had received Mada's gesture he began to walk, following in the same direction as Kuma and his men. After getting a good distance away from the two men, Trayner had stopped walking.

"This isn't fair, I'm a warrior too," He thought while checking the area around him to make sure that no one had eyes on him.

"Look like the coast is clear," Trayner said under his breath, though Mada clearly didn't want him to listen in on their conversation, he wanted to know what was going on and if he could help in any way.

After Trayner had made sure that his surroundings were clear he began to make his move. Trayner launched himself from the ground and grabbed ahold of a thick tree branch several meters above his head, pulling himself on top of the branch and gathering his footing.

"I just have to be as quiet as possible," He thought while jumping from tree to tree trying to be as careful as humanly possible not to snap the branches under his feet.

Once Trayner came upon an area where he could spot Mada and Lucus having their private conversation, he stopped moving and crouched on a tree branch.

"This should be close enough for me to hear without getting spotted," as he thought these words he could see the two men sitting across from each other on large rocks.

"Are you sure that the uniforms that they are wearing contains the same crest as the Blane Resurgence Union?" Trayner heard Mada speak these words in a low but audible tone.

"Yes I'm certain," Lucus responded without hesitation. "I honestly don't think that these people had any contact with the chief, and if they did it certainly wasn't as allies of any kind."

Mada stood up from the rock and began to pace back and forth.

"This is troublesome. Though I have no doubt in my mind that chief Tayaire is able to handle any threat, I'm concerned about the trouble that he is in due to them arriving from his direction," Mada said.

The realization that they may have been aiding their enemies caused his body to surge with anger.

"I will not stand for this amount of deception and mockery," Mada said as he began to arm himself and move to catch up with the other members of their group.

He felt Lucus grab at the back of his armor, stopping him in his tracks.

"What are you doing Mada?"

Lucus couldn't hide his smile while observing the hysterical scene he was taking apart of.

"Your acting like an emotional child. We need to come up with a plan before engaging with these people," Lucus said while getting pulled by Mada.

While watching the two in the tree above, Trayner couldn't help but chuckle.

"With those two both being such high-ranked members, I forgot how goofy they could be," Trayner thought while he laughed at the two men.

A small beam of light had crashed into the tree branch that Trayner was standing on. The beam shot by Lucus wasn't powerful, but it was enough to snap the branch in half, sending Trayner falling to the ground.

"Why am I not surprised by this," Mada stated while watching Trayner pick himself up from the ground.

"You can't keep pulling stunts like this Trayner. Either that or get better at concealing yourself for future endeavors," Lucus mocked.

He reached out a hand to help Trayner to his feet, but Trayner quickly knocked his hand away and stood up on his own.

"So you think that Mr. Kuma would try to attack my dad," Trayner asked in a aggravated tone.

Usually Trayner would respond with some type of slick remark, but he ignored the remarks of the two men. At that moment the only thing that was on Trayner's mind was the conversation that he heard between Mada and Lucus.

"Let me ask you this. Have you ever heard of the Blane Resurgence?" Mada asked looking at Trayner.

While he didn't know how to answer Mada, Trayner did have some idea to what was being asked. While Trayner was the son of the chief, he wasn't fully aware of the political side of things dealing with the tribe. He learned of the history and dealings within the country because of his private studies, but anything dealing with the council was only spread amongst the tribe's leaders and warrior branch. Trayner shook his head stating that he have never heard of such a group. Though In the past, Trayner have heard rumors of some Neuvarian tribes trying to communicate with outside nations.

Mada looked at the confusion on the child's face.

"The fact that you aren't answering tells me one of two things, either you don't know anything about what I'm asking or you're not sure if your answer is correct," Mada stated. "Either way I will just tell you. The Blane Resurgence is a union that was created by several of the Neuvarian tribes in hopes to work with other nations to advance Neuvaria's social standing. While in some ways this agreement would benefit us, it is at the cost of our valuable minerals and would cause a set back in the progression of our nation within the next twenty or so years. This caused four of the main tribes to object to this union until a new arrangement could be made."

Mada stopped to look at Trayner and Lucus making sure that the two of them understood what he was saying. At the moment he felt like a university teacher by the way the two of them were staring at him, so he continued to speak.

"Though the Zibiru tribe weren't seen as a major force at the time of it's uprising, with time we've became one of the most powerful tribes in the country, even gaining a seat at the Neuvarian Council of Salvation. This major role had gave us a vote in every decision made within the country. With that being said, we also had a part in the vote dealing with the plan of the Union. With four of the main tribes voting for the union and the other four voting against it, the final vote rested with your father and the rest of the Zibiru's council."

If everything that Mada had said was the truth, Trayner felt that he knew where the rest of the story was headed.

"So my dad had chose to vote against the union. Is that the reason why we are under attack?" Trayner asked with determination.

While his answer wasn't completely off the mark, the attack on their tribe wasn't due to that reason.

"No, that isn't it. Well at most it isn't that simple," Lucus cut in.

He was standing with both of his hands placed behind his head as if he was trying to stretch out his neck.

"We couldn't come to an agreement, so we asked the NCS for a few days to think it over. That was two days ago, within that time, one of the head leaders of the Gloriam tribe has already been executed. Along with our tribe being attacked twice in one day. It would make sense that someone is trying to kill off some of the leaders that voted against the Union so that the agreement could tilt in their favor." Mada stated with a dark and serious tone.
