Chapter 1 - SOMEone was LISTENING

The beach was calm, the sky a soft shade of blue-grey as dawn broke over the horizon. A cool breeze whispered through, carrying the faint rustling of white roses in Y/N's hands. She stood motionless at the water's edge, her eyes tracing each wave as it rolled in and slipped away again, only to be replaced by another. With each wave, she felt a flicker of hope and heartbreak, longing for Jungkook—still hoping, in the deepest part of her heart, that he would somehow return. It had been a year since Jungkook disappeared, his body lost to the sea, and yet, a part of her refused to believe he was truly gone.

Behind her, standing at a distance, Jennie, V, and Jimin watched in silence. They understood the weight of her loss, and each of them felt their own ache for Jungkook's absence, though they knew it would never be the same as hers. The morning chill settled over them, grounding them in as they looked at Y/N, looking against the endless ocean, waiting.

Y/N's voice trembled as she spoke, her words swallowed by the vastness of the ocean, yet somehow carried by the breeze. She held the bouquet close to her chest, eyes filled with unshed tears.

Y/N: Jungkook….( her voice barely above a whisper) Do you remember? All those late-night talks, when you told me about all the dreams we'd make come true? We promised each other forever…I remember the way you'd take my hand, the way you'd look at me like I was your entire world. You promised you'd never let me go. (She let out a shaky breath, trying to hold back the tears) But here I am… and you're-

Her hand drifted to her stomach instinctively, the empty ache there a reminder of yet another loss.

Y/N: I… I was pregnant. The last, most precious thing you left me with… .He would have been our little miracle, the last piece of you I had left. (she whispered, her voice breaking) But I lost him too, Jungkook. I lost him… I lost both of you. And there's a part of me that feels like I've been shattered beyond repair I'm sorry, Jungkook. (She choked on the words) I wasn't strong enough. I know I was supposed to take care of myself for our child, but without you… everything feels incomplete.

Y/N: It's been a year. (her fingers tightened around the delicate white roses, their petals soft against her skin, contrasting with the raw ache in her heart) Until now, I was hoping you'd come back, but now… I'm losing hope. Maybe I've already lost it.

A tear slipped down her cheek, and she brushed it away, feeling the weight of every unfulfilled promise settle on her shoulders. Her voice wavered.

Y/N: Today, I came here to finally say goodbye. I never imagined it would be like this—I didn't even get to see your face one last time. (Y/N took a deep, steadying breath, her gaze fixed on the horizon. She felt the warmth of the rising sun beginning to break through the mist, casting gentle rays across the water. It was like the world was urging her to move forward, nudging her toward a future that felt so empty without him)

Y/N: But don't worry. From today onward, I'll try to be happy. I'll try to smile… just for you. (she closed her eyes for a moment, grounding herself in that promise) But after today… I won't have the courage to come here again.

With that, she knelt down and placed the bouquet gently on the sand, a final token of her love and farewell. She lingered, watching the waves lap at the shore, and then, with one last look at the rising sun, she turned away. The warmth of the sun began to chase away the chill, as if symbolizing the start of a new chapter, even as her heart remained longing for him.

Jennie bit her lip, a hand pressed to her heart as she tried to hold back the tears that threatened to fall. V kept his eyes on the waves while Jimin gently placed a hand on his shoulder. Jennie walked toward Y/N and hugged her. Y/N wiped her tears and smiled at Jennie. There was nothing she could say that would make the ache go away. So Jennie tried to encourage her.

Jennie: Are you okay, Y/N? Ready to move on?

Y/N took a steady breath, feeling a new resolve within her, though the sadness still lingered at the edges.

Y/N: I'm fine, now. (she replied, her voice barely a whisper but strong enough for her friends to hear)

Jimin looked at her carefully, his eyes full of empathy.

Jimin: You sure? (he asked gently, wanting to be certain she was truly ready)

Y/N managed a small smile, nodding.

Y/N: Yeah, I'm sure.

Jennie reached out, giving Y/N's hand a comforting squeeze.

Jennie: You need to be strong. We're all here for you. (Y/N nodded in response, feeling the warmth of their support settle over her)

Just then, V glanced down at his phone as it buzzed with a message. After a quick read, he looked up.

V: They're waiting for us. (his voice calm yet prompting) Let's go to the airport.

Y/N took one last, deep breath, feeling the ocean breeze around her one final time before turning away. With Jennie, Jimin, and V by her side, she took a step forward, leaving behind the sand, the waves, and the white roses that marked her farewell.

At the airport, Suga, Alexander, Chaoyue, Eun Woo, and Hyje In waited patiently as Y/N and others arrived, having just returned from bidding a final farewell to Jungkook.

Hyje In: (embracing Y/N) How are you, Y/N?

Chaoyue: (giving Y/N a supportive hug) You look alright now.

Y/N: (smiling) I'm more than okay, don't worry. So, where are you guys heading off to?

Hyje In and Chaoyue glanced at their boyfriends, who exchanged knowing looks.

Alexander: I've got to take over the family business. After getting injured, I couldn't make it to Thailand, but now it's time. Plus, I'll be introducing Chaoyue to my family. *He winked at Chaoyue.

Y/N: (teasing) Ohhh, where's that girl who used to say she hated boys?

Chaoyue: (shyly) Stop it, you two! He's not that bad. (sneaks a glance at Alexander)

Y/N: And you, Eun Woo?

Eun Woo: (holding Hyje In's hand with a soft smile) I'm headed to China. We're getting married!

*The group erupts in cheers and applause.*

Jimin: Wow, bro, you're fast! Why not get married here?

Suga: (smirking) Don't tell me you're trying to avoid inviting us?

They all laugh and playfully nudge Eun Woo, who holds his hands up in surrender.

Eun Woo: It's nothing like that. Our families are there; that's all.

Hyje In: (looking at Y/N) You'll come to the wedding, right?

Y/N: I'm not sure... I need to look after the company. Things aren't great at the moment.

Hyje In: Still, try to make it!

Eun Woo: Yes, Y/N. There's plenty of time before the wedding. No excuses!

Y/N: (smiling softly) I'll try, but I can't make any promises.

*An announcer's voice filled the room.*

"Dear passengers, flights to Thailand and China are now boarding. Please proceed to the checkpoints. Thank you."

Jennie: (sighing) Looks like it's time to say goodbye.

V: No, not goodbye. Just see you again.

*The group gathers for a heartfelt group hug, saying their goodbyes as Eun Woo and Alexander head off with their partners.*

As the others watched them leave, Jimin sighed.

Jimin: So... what should we do now?

V: Let's go clubbing!

Jennie: Are we sure that's a good idea?

Y/N: (with a spark in her eyes) Not clubbing let's just hang out.

Suga: Count me out; I have some work to handle.

Jimin: Alright, let's go then!

Suga: (turning to Y/N) Y/N, you're coming to the company tomorrow, right?

Y/N: Yes, and thank you for holding things together while I was away.

Suga nods and leaves to take care of his responsibilities, while the others head off to the club, ready to spend the night together.

For a fleeting moment, surrounded by Jennie, V, and Jimin, she had laughed and shared stories, momentarily forgetting the suffocating weight of Jungkook's absence. As the evening ended, Jennie and V left together, their intertwined hands a bittersweet reminder of what Y/N had lost. She had drunk more than she should have, and Jimin, ever the responsible friend, insisted on driving her home.

The car hummed softly as they drove through the quiet streets. The city lights blurred into streaks of gold and white, reflecting in Y/N's glassy eyes. Jimin glanced at her occasionally, concern etched into his face, but he said nothing until they pulled up outside a mansion.

Jimin: Y/N, we're here. *he said gently, his voice careful, almost hesitant.

She blinked, peering out the window. Her lips twisted into a sad smile.

Y/N: This isn't my home. *she whispered, her voice carrying the weight of a memory that she couldn't bear to revisit.

Jimin looked away, guilt flickering in his eyes.

Jimin: This is your home (he said softly) Your parents are waiting for you.

Y/N let out a hollow laugh, bitter and raw.

Y/N: I really wish they were, Jimin. (her words sliced through the air, leaving an aching silence in their wake. She turned to him, her gaze heavy with both sorrow and resignation) They are gone.

Jimin's throat tightened.

Jimin: I'm sorry, (he murmured, his voice barely audible) I… I forgot. After being in a coma, some memories— (he trailed off, his hands gripping the steering wheel as if to steady himself)

Y/N softened, though the pain in her chest remained.

Y/N: It's okay, (she said quietly) Are you okay, Jimin?

He nodded faintly, but his eyes betrayed the truth.

Jimin: What about you? (he asked, his voice tinged with worry)

Y/N: I'm okay, (she replied, though the lie was evident in her trembling hands) Take me to Jungkook's house.

Jimin: (hesitated) Are you sure? Staying there… It won't help you move on.

Y/N's gaze hardened, though tears shimmered at the edges.

Y/N: Jimin, for now, I just need to be there. It's still my house too.

Reluctantly, he shifted the car into gear and drove on. The silence between them was heavy, filled only by the hum of the engine and the occasional rustle of the night wind. When they arrived, Y/N stepped out, steadying herself against the doorframe. She paused and turned back to Jimin.

Y/N: Oh, Remember to check on V and Jennie. Make sure they got home safe. (after the past incidents the always check on each other time to time)

Jimin: (lips curved into a faint smile) He already texted me. They're home.

Y/N: (nodding) Good, Okay then. Bye.

Jimin: (rolled down the window as she began to walk away) You should really hire someone—a maid, maybe—to help you out. You shouldn't be alone.

Y/N: (glanced back, shaking her head) I'm fine.

Jimin: Stubborn, (muttered under his breath, though the word was tinged with affection) Take care.

She waved without looking back and disappeared inside the house. The door closed behind her with a soft click, leaving Jimin alone in the stillness of the night. He lingered for a moment, staring at the darkened windows, before driving away, the road stretching out before him like a quiet, unspoken promise to keep checking on her.

Inside, Y/N leaned against the closed door, her fingers brushing over the ring she still wore on her finger. This house held echoes of Jungkook—his laughter, his voice, his presence. And while it broke her to be here, it was the only place where she still felt close to him.

She sighed heavily, her bag slipping from her shoulder and landing on the bed as she entered the bedroom. She stood for a moment, staring at the empty room before deciding to take a shower. The warm water cascaded over her, momentarily washing away the haze of alcohol and the heavy weight of her thoughts. When she returned to the bed, her damp hair clinging to her neck, she lay on her back, staring up at the ceiling.

Memories flooded her mind, unbidden but welcome. Her lips quirked into a faint, bittersweet smile as she remembered the first time Jungkook had brought her here, his excitement as radiant as the morning sun.

Jungkook: Close your eyes, *his voice brimming with boyish excitement.

Y/N: Why? *laughed, her curiosity rosed.

Jungkook: Just trust me! (he took her hand, gently guiding her up the steps) No peeking, okay?

Y/N: Okay, okay. (squeezing her eyes shut and letting him lead her forward. She could hear the jingle of keys, the creak of the front door, and then a soft tug on her hand)

Jungkook: All right (whispered, his tone teasingly dramatic) On the count of three. One… two… three!

Y/N opened her eyes, and her breath caught.

The house was perfect. Sunlight poured through the wide windows, casting a golden glow on the cozy living room. The furniture was minimal yet thoughtfully placed, and the scent of fresh paint mingled with the faint aroma of lavender from a nearby vase.

Jungkook: What do you think? (his dark eyes scanning her face nervously) It's not too big, but I figured it'd feel more like… us, you know?

Y/N: It's so huge and beautiful, (murmured, her gaze sweeping over the space) Jungkook, you didn't have to—

Jungkook: I wanted to, (he interrupted, his smile wide and boyish) Come on, let me show you something.

He took her hand again, pulling her toward the wall opposite the living room. It was lined with picture frames, each one carefully placed.

Jungkook : These, (his voice softening) are the best parts of us.

Y/N stepped closer, her eyes scanning the photos. There they were—smiling on their first trip together, arms wrapped around each other on a snowy day, laughing at a messy picnic. Each frame was a snapshot of their happiest moments, frozen in time.

Y/N: You framed these already? (She traced her finger over one photo, her heart swelling)

Jungkook: I wanted it to feel like home as soon as you walked in. (rubbing the back of his neck) Because this is home now. For both of us.

Y/N: You're amazing, you know that? *turned to him, tears prickling at the corners of her eyes.

Jungkook: I know. But hearing it from you makes it even better. *he grinned, pulling her into his arms.

They stood there for a long time, wrapped in each other's warmth, the house alive with the promise of their future.

Y/N blinked, the memory fading like the last embers of a fire. She turned her head toward the nightstand, where a familiar picture frame sat. It was the same one she'd touched that day—her favorite photo of them, arms wrapped around each other in front of a flower field, his grin as bright as the sun.

She reached out, brushing her fingers against the glass.

Y/N: I miss you, *she whispered, her voice cracking under the weight of her grief.

The sharp ring of her phone jolted Y/N awake. Her eyes fluttered open, the remains of last night's haze still clouding her thoughts. Her head throbbed as the secretary's voice came through the line, brisk and urgent.

???: Miss Y/N, your meeting is scheduled for this morning. It's important. (the secretary reminded her)

Y/N exhaled deeply, sitting up and rubbing her temples. The weight of responsibility settled on her shoulders once again. Jungkook was gone, and the company's future rested in her hands now. As the new CEO, there was no room for hesitation.

Skipping breakfast, she dressed quickly and headed to the office. She barely noticed the way the sunlight seemed to mock her fatigue.

At the company, Suga was waiting for her in the lobby, his expression calm but focused. He had been managing the company in her absence, helping to steady the ship while Y/N processed her loss.

Suga: You're here. (he said simply, falling into step beside her)

Y/N: Let's get this over with. *her tone firm.

They entered the meeting room where Mr. Xin was already seated. He stood as they approached, a polite smile stretching across his face. The man was older, his tailored suit immaculate and his silver hair combed back with precision.

Mr. Xin: Miss Y/N, *he greeted warmly, extending a hand.

Y/N: I apologize for being late, *shaking his hand briefly.

Mr. Xin: It's no trouble.

The secretary stepped forward, introducing them formally before retreating to the corner of the room. Y/N sat across from Mr. Xin, her demeanor professional, though her headache made it hard to focus.

Mr. Xin outlined his proposal with confidence, explaining how his investment could bolster the company's standing. His words were smooth, his tone practiced, but something about him unsettled Y/N.

The meeting ended with Mr. Xin agreeing to give her more time to consider the deal. As he left, his confident smile lingered in Y/N's mind like a shadow.

Suga: (glanced at her) I'll head back to my tasks. You've got this.

Y/N nodded, watching him leave before making her way to the CEO's office. It was Jungkook's office once, a space that still carried his essence—his scent faint in the leather chair, his favorite pen resting in the holder. She sat down in his chair, exhaling deeply.

Her secretary entered moments later, holding a notepad.

???: Miss Y/N, what do you think about the deal with Mr. Xin?

Y/N: Honestly? I don't like him. He gives me… creepy vibes. He seemed too desperate to finalize the deal. Look deeper into his background. I want a full report. *leaned back, her eyes narrowing slightly.

???: Understood. I'll look into it.*The secretary nodded.

Y/N: Oh, and one more thing, (pressing her fingers to her temples) Get me some hangover.

The secretary chuckled lightly.

???: On it. (She turned toward the door, her heels clicking against the polished floor)

But as she reached for the handle, the door moved. It creaked closed as though someone had just slipped out. The secretary froze, glancing back at Y/N.

???: Did you see that? *her voice hushed.

Y/N: Someone was listening *stood slowly, her eyes locked on the door.
