Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Champion-Level Qualified Torchic!

"Student Aron, are you interested in this Bulbasaur?"

Seeing Aron staring at Bulbasaur without blinking, Lilian asked softly.

Aron came back to his senses, shook his head, and replied, "Let's move on."

Needless to say, Bulbasaur is indeed very suitable for a Rookie's Pokémon, and after evolving into Venusaur, its strength is not to be underestimated. It could even serve as a main Pokémon for a trainer.

However, its qualification is only at the semi-Gym level, which can be considered average.

The next one will definitely be better.

Lilian nodded in understanding, then, with a smile on her face, led Aron forward, introducing the Pokémon beside him.

"This is Eevee, the super popular Pokémon with several possible evolutions, perfect for a Rookie Trainer."

Aron stared intently, looking into a pair of warm brown eyes.

Eevee was a small, brown Pokémon with a fluffy cream collar and tail, irresistible to pet, with long, pointed ears pricked up.

Its appearance is really appealing, no wonder Eevee is so sought after by many Trainers.

Ability: Run Away

Level: Lv4 (Rookie level)]

"Although it looks nice, its qualification isn't as good as the last Bulbasaur," Aron muttered to himself, looking away.

In his mind, selecting the first Pokémon is crucial.

First, the qualifications must be high enough to support its future development, allowing it to become a core member of the team.

Second, it needs to progress quickly in the early stages to avoid restricting the Trainer's early development. Therefore, choosing a pseudo-legendary Pokémon is usually out of the question.

Pseudo-legendary Pokémon are almost all late bloomers, with slow development in the early stages and lacking competitiveness early on.

From Aron's experience, many noble families would not allow their children to select a pseudo-legendary as their Starter Pokémon, instead choosing one with strong early-stage competitiveness and using it to boost their team.

Of course, there are exceptions; some children grow up bonded with a pseudo-legendary, and choose them as their Starter Pokémon.

"Besides, there won't be any pseudo-legendaries here..." Aron thought.

Pseudo-legendary Pokémon are priceless and scarce in the market, so they're unlikely to appear in the Pokémon Breeder Center.

With these thoughts in mind, Aron continued listening as Lilian introduced other Pokémon.

"This is Houndour, a Pokémon that lives in packs, good at teamwork, and very loyal to its Trainer."

Aron observed several Houndours with varying qualifications, from Advanced level to Gym level.

For average trainers, Gym-level qualifications are impressive, but Aron still felt unsatisfied.

As a descendant of an Elite Trainer, it wasn't unreasonable for him to expect his Starter Pokémon to be at least Elite level, right?

"This is Elekid..."

Gym-level qualification...

"This is Turtwig..."

semi-Elite qualification!

The two walked further, gradually leaving the grassy area and entering the forested region.

The towering trees were lush and vibrant, like silent and loyal guardians that had stood for decades, watching the Trainers come and go.

Various types of Pokémon inhabited the vast forest.

Not long after, they spotted a small monkey covered in orange fur. It had large ears, a swirl mark on its chest, and a flame on its tail.

[Pokémon: Chimchar (Fire)

Ability: Blaze

Qualification: Elite

Level: Lv4 (Rookie level)]

Elite qualification!

Seeing the Chimchar lounging on a rock, Aron perked up and stared at it closely.

However, Chimchar only lazily raised its eyelids under Aron's gaze, stretched, and yawned before changing its posture and lying down again.

Lilian probably noticed Aron's interest and softly explained, "Student Aton, this Chimchar isn't suitable for a Rookie Trainer."

Seeing Aron's puzzled expression, Lilian clarified, "According to our observations, this Chimchar has no fighting spirit or desire to battle."

Aron nodded, understanding her point.

Chimchar is usually full of energy and fighting spirit, but changing the personality of this particular Chimchar would require the skills of a top Trainer or Master Breeder.

In short, this really wasn't a Pokémon for a Rookie Trainer.

Aron withdrew his gaze with slight regret and said, "Let's keep looking."

Unfortunately, a Chimchar without fighting spirit might not even be able to activate its [Blaze] ability, making it a poor choice.

In the next half hour, Aron encountered another Elite-level Pokémon—Slakoth.

There's no doubt that Slakoth's final evolution, Slaking, is powerful, not even inferior to most pseudo-legendary Pokémon.

But Slaking's ability, [Truant], ultimately discouraged Aron from choosing Slakoth.

"It's a shame you came a few days late. Several Pokémon with good qualifications were taken recently," Lilian said, noticing Aron's ongoing search.

"It's alright." Aron waved it off.

Boom!

Suddenly, there was a strange sound nearby, and Aron turned to look in its direction.

Lilian's brow furrowed slightly as she looked over too.

The two quickly walked toward the noise, and soon reached a clearing surrounded by tall, straight trees, sunlight filtering unevenly onto the ground through the leaves.

In the open space, a handsome boy was rubbing his backside in pain.

Aron was taken aback at first, then his gaze locked onto a striking Pokémon standing in front of the boy.

It was an orange, chick-like Pokémon covered in feathers, with two tiny wings.

[Pokémon: Torchic (Fire)

Ability: Speed Boost

Qualification: Champion

Level: Lv7 (Rookie level)]

Champion-level!

Speed Boost ability!

Seeing this information, Aron's eyes widened as he fixed his gaze on the Torchic standing calmly.

"This little one is acting up again..." Lilian sighed beside him, explaining, "This Torchic has a great qualification and a strong fighting spirit. It challenges all the nearby Pokémon."

"Many Trainers saw its potential and tried to capture it, but it insisted that they fight and defeat it before attempting to capture it."

No wonder this Torchic remained uncaptured.

Most of the Trainers who come to the Pokémon Breeder Center are recent high school graduates, with average physical ability and no real fighting skills. Without other Pokémon, they wouldn't stand a chance against a Rookie-level Torchic.

"Let me give it a try," Aron said.
