"What?" Beck and Ben chorused in shock. They could not believe what Damion had just said.
"Is this true, Ben?" He asked.
"Calm down, Beck. It's not what you think. It's not even true. Don't listen to him. He is just spewing nonsense. I don't know where he heard this nonsense from." Ben said, trying to defend himself.
"Oh really?" Damion scoffed. "Explain what it is then." He sneered at him.
"Damion! What the hell is wrong with you? Have you lost your damn mind?" Ben yelled at him.
He turned back to Beck in a bid to explain the misunderstanding but from the look on Beck's face, it was clear that he was extremely furious and mad at him.
"I can't believe I've trusted a betrayer all these years. You're supposed to be my best friend for crying out loud! How could you harbor feelings for my girl? I hope you're happy now that she has left."
"No, Beck. Trust me. The moon goddess is my witness. I have never had any of that kind of feeling towards her." Ben explained.
"But you were close to her?" Beck asked.
"Yes, I was close to her at some point, but it was never because of any feelings." He replied. "Please don't allow these rumors to ruin what we've built over the years, please. Believe me. I'll never intentionally betray you and you know this." Ben explained.
"Lies! Pure lies." Damion interrupted, but before Beck could say anything, Ben had charged towards Damion again and thrown him a punch in the face.
Beck immediately separated them before they attracted the attention of the other pack members to themselves.
"Have you both lost your minds? " Beck yelled at them.
"You know what? Just leave!" He ordered angrily.
"But -" The both of them tried to protest but Beck wasn't ready to listen to whatever they had to say.
"Just leave before I lose my temper!" He repeated. "I SAID LEAVE!!!" He growled, leaving them now with choice but to leave immediately.
Immediately they left and shut the door behind them, Beck threw himself on his bed, frustrated. After a few minutes, he stood up and began to pace around in his room. He tried to not think about what Damion just said, but he couldn't and it just made matters worse. He wondered why Ben, who was his best friend, would betray him by having feelings for Veronica. At the same time, he began to have second thoughts.
"But why would Ben do such a thing? Is it even possible? Could Damion be lying?" He asked himself. "But he has no reason to lie, I mean, he has nothing to gain from lying." Beck told himself, silently.
"I must have been a fool for never finding out!" He said and hissed.
"But damn! Veronica is really problematic like mum said. I'm shocked that, at the mention of her name, heads butt and there's always one fight or the other." He said irritatingly.
"Could they be right by saying she is cursed?" He asked himself.
Frustrated, he stopped pacing and grunted loudly before sitting angrily on his bed.
Outside Beck's room, Ben and Damion stood for a few minutes before Damion decided to leave Ben and walk away but Ben grabbed his arm and took him with him far from the building.
He flung Damion's arm angrily away from his grip, making him stagger as he tried to gain balance, "You know, I'm highly disappointed in you. In fact, "disappointed" is an understatement. How could you? How could you think so lowly of me? How could you say such things? That I had a thing for Veronica? Really?" Ben said to Damion, angrily, but deep down, he was hurt.
Damion straightened his rumpled clothes, "Please don't try to play that pity card with me here, because it won't work. I know what you are." He snapped at him.
"You know what I am?" Ben scoffed. "What does that even mean?" He asked, confused.
"Look, Ben, I'm in no mood for all these talks. I have evidence and a living witness to back up my claims. I'm not a fool who will just be spreading rumors just because I feel like doing so." Damion replied.
"But you didn't even walk up to me to ask me, you just jumped into conclusion because you have evidence and "a living witness"? Really, Damion? I thought you were better than this." Ben said, staring at him.
"And who is this your "living witness" ?" Ben asked him.
"And why should I tell you? Oh, so you think I'll tell you so that you'll go and threaten her? You must be joking." Damion replied, mockingly.
"Oh, so it's a female? It's a she?" Ben asked immediately he caught on to the fact that the witness Damion was talking about was a female.
Displeased that he had given that information away, Damion cleared his throat, "Look, do whatever you want to do and say whatever you want to say to defend yourself. It still doesn't change the fact that you're a sly friend that everyone should be weary of."
"Stop this nonsense, Damion! Stop this! It's beginning to look like someone has been feeding you with so much lies, that you've forgotten that we've been friends for years and I won't suddenly betray Beck because of a female, not to talk of an omega for that matter." Ben snapped at him.
"Oh, but you didn't think about that when you told me you found her attractive back then!" Damion snapped back at him.
"What? That was many years ago, before she met Beck for crying out loud! What the hell are you on about? Are you crazy? So all this drama is because of what I told you years ago?" Ben shook his head in total disbelief.
"That was what I thought until I began to see the way you kept looking lovingly at her. Back then, I thought it was normal and I didn't think too much about it, until recently when someone else brought it to my notice." Damion replied
Ben could not believe that the young man who had been accusing him was his friend, he thought about how far they had come and how long they had been friends for, and kept wondering who could have given him such false information about him and Veronica and why, but as much as he thought about it, he just couldn't find an answer, which frustrated him the more, because Beck was back in his room and he would probably be thinking about everything that Damion has said.
"You know what? You're unbelievable and crazy." Ben said to him as he hissed and left, getting in his car and driving off, leaving Damion alone there.
