Chereads / The Scorned Silver Wolf / Chapter 12 - Chapter 12

Chapter 12 - Chapter 12

Veronica trudged on in the forest, limping on her injured leg as she still felt pain in it, which made her journey slower than it would have been. Not that she had a particular destination in mind, but she just kept moving, hoping that luck would smile on her and she would find a place to rest for the night before it got darker.

As she kept wandering around in the forest, she noticed something familiar.

"Why does this place look so familiar? I thought I had passed this tree before now. Are all the trees now looking the same?" She asked herself as she looked around to be sure that she wasn't right.

"No, it can't be. They all just look alike. It's the forest, so the trees are bound to look alike." She said again as she kept going.

After walking for almost twenty minutes, she saw the familiar big tree again.

"No way, what could be going on? Am I seeing things now?" She said out loud, obviously expecting no answer, except her voice echoing back to her.

As she stood there, a thought came to her mind. She took the tip of her dress and tore it, she then tied it to the trunk of the tree. After doing this, she began to walk in the same direction that she had walked earlier, and after almost thirty minutes, this time around, because of her tiredness, she arrived at the same big tree, which now had her torn dress wrapped round it.

"No way! No No No!" She cried out the moment she saw what was going on. It was exactly what she had dreaded to happen. She had been going round in circles.

She threw herself to the ground, ignoring the pain in her leg and began to weep profusely and uncontrollably.

"How can you be so stupid, Vee. You've been going around in circles for the past three hours. Why are you so clueless and unfortunate?" She began to beat herself up about it as she cried.

While she was crying, she heard a rustling sound in the bushes behind her. At first, she ignored and paid no attention until the sound came again, louder and closer to her than before. She thought of approaching the source of the noise but changed her mind again. Soon, she then heard a loud hissing sound and this time she just knew she definitely had to turn around to see what it was.

As she slowly and gradually turned back to look behind her, to her surprise, she came face to face with a large snake, slithering gracefully on the forest floor. Although it was getting dark, she could still see its scales glistening, and its forked tongue flicking in and out as it sniffed the air. Fear gripped her heart as she realized she was just inches away from the dangerous creature, which would not hesitate to strike her and render her incapacitated, before breaking her bones and gulping her down in just a matter of minutes. Her breath caught in her throat, and she felt shivers running down her spine.

The snake was now curled up right in front of her, staring right in her eyes, but to her surprise, she noticed it was trying to strike her but it was like a force was pulling it back and it couldn't touch her.

Without any more hesitation, she took to her heels, taking another path, ignoring her pain and running as fast as her legs could carry her, with the image of the snake etched in her mind.

As she sprinted through the forest, the adrenaline pumping through her veins, she couldn't shake off the feeling of being followed by the snake and so she kept running and didn't stop until she realized once again that she had gotten to that same tree where she tied her torn dress, earlier.

Seeing that she had gotten to that same tree again, she stopped running and collapsed to the ground, "NO!!!!!!!!" She screamed in pain and disbelief.

She thought she had escaped running around in circles since she took another path but it seemed like there was no end to her circling around.

"Moon goddess!!!! What have I done wrong to deserve all of this? Why is nothing going well for me? Why is nothing happening right? Isn't it bad enough that I'm a worthless and useless omega who amounts to nothing? Isn't it bad enough that I was rejected by the only one I truly loved and thought he loved me the same way? Isn't it also bad enough that I lost my best friend? The only one I could call my sister! Isn't it also bad enough that I was BANISHED from the pack that I have known as home for many years, while the one i thought would fight for me just looked away while i was suffering and in pain and in need of him after? Isn't all that bad and terrible enough? But now that I'm trying to pick the pieces of my life and move forward, I find out I'm stuck in the same position, going around in circles without knowing. What exactly have I done that is so bad and unforgivable?" She lamented painfully as the tears refused to stop pouring out.

"It's better you kill me here and now, since I'm not useful to anyone and I'm not even useful to myself too. I don't know how you would do it but I think you need to just kill me now. At least that way, I'll have peace." She cried and lay flat on the ground and closed her eyes, as if waiting for someone to kill her truly.

She remained motionless, still closing her eyes, and slept off for hours till it got so dark at night. While still lying there on the floor, she heard the loud sound of thunder and lightning which immediately woke her up, as she shrieked in fear and immediately got up.

"Oh no! I thought the moon goddess answered me already." She complained and looked around, only to find out that everywhere was dark.

"Gosh! I've been sleeping all along. And it's about to rain. Oh no! This is a disaster. Where do I go from here now? What do i-" The lightning and thunder came again, louder than before.

She immediately picked up her little baggage and began to run in the opposite direction of where she had been going before, trying to find somewhere to hide from the rain before it started. She hadn't gone too far when the rain began to pour down heavily.

"I knew it, I'm CURSED. The rain couldn't even wait for me to find somewhere to hide." She muttered as she kept running, completely drenched by the rain.

She kept running in the dark until she stumbled and fell and passed out immediately.
