Chapter 38 - Pass

As the three individuals ascended into the carriage and Doron issued a sharp command, the four imposing oxen strained against their harnesses, setting the elongated carriage into motion. It rumbled out of the hotel yard, following the narrow street that led them inexorably towards the railway platform.

The carriage swayed gently at first, like a ship on a calm sea, before finding its equilibrium. The wheels then began to turn with a rhythmic "creaking" sound, gradually gathering speed as the oxen, urged on by Doron's incessant cries, broke into a wild gallop along the railway tracks. Swiftly, the carriage left the station behind, the distance between them growing with each passing moment. The large post station, which had been a bustling hub of activity just moments ago, now dwindled in size until it vanished completely from sight, swallowed up by the vast expanse of the desert.
