'Guilt'....a feeling you get when you do something you shouldn't have. But you can always make up for the mistakes you've made in the past.. or can you not?....
It was five in the morning, and Adrianna was getting ready to go on a jog. The sun wasn't out yet, and the weather was cold. As she was on her way, she recalled the last time she spoke to her childhood friend, Darren. It was six years ago at a party they had attended moments before he was killed. It was the birthday party of one of their close friend, Koat, who had just turned 18 at that time. Both Adrianna and Darren were excited about the party. Unfortunately, no one knew it would be Darren's last day. But why would someone kill the honest and sweet guy who had no enemies?
As she was sprinting, she suddenly saw the school she used to attend. "I was 16 when it all happened", she muttered to herself.
"Well, that was quite a long time ago; why are you still thinking about it?" Said Detective Johnson from behind.
"What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be in New York?" Asks Adrianna with a surprised face.
"Well, I missed Pennsylvania." Stated detective Johnson. "You used to hate this place, why come back here now?" Inquires Adrianna.
"People change, Anna. It turns out Pennsylvania is a pretty good place to live in. Also, I'm here to find a parasite." Claimed Johnson.
Just then, Adrianna's alarm starts going off. "Looks like it's time for me to leave now, Detective. Need to go and get ready for my job. I hope you find the parasite you're looking for." said Adrianna.
"Thanks, Anna. See you later." Says detective Johnson and they both go on their separate ways.
Detective Johnson was the one in charge of Darren's case. After the investigation was over, the person who got accused was Koat, as the police got an anonymous call from someone claiming that they last saw Darren with Koat. But since there was a lack of evidence and no proof to claim that he was last seen with Darren, he was let go from the custody and the police closed the case soon after.
Everyone was convinced that the real killer was Koat, except Adrianna. She knew the real killer was someone else as she saw Koat in the house before the tragedy happened.
After the police found Darren's body, they saw the number "6" written all over his body. The police thought that it might be the killer's sixth victim and didn't think much of it. Even after closing down of the case, Adrianna wanted to catch the killer. She worked hard and finally became a part of the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police after six years. Being new at her job gave her a lot of difficulties in the beginning but she knew it will be worth it as long as she finds the killer.
It was now 8:30 am, and Adrianna was in the police station.
"Good morning, Sergeant." She says to Sergeant Buck.
"Good morning to you as well, Officer; you're late." Said the Sergeant.
"I'm sorry, sir, it won't happen again," Adrianna apologizes as she walks away to her desk.
Being late was part of Adrianna's job. Although she was tired of apologizing everyday, she couldn't help being late. After buying a new apartment and living there by herself, it was hard for her to manage things. Adrianna never liked her previous home, as she was a foster child and always felt like she didn't belong in that place.
But things were finally starting to change for her.
