Chapter 31 - Farewell Feast

Sometimes it was a few leaves from a cruciferous vegetables, and other times it was half of a vegetable's root or stem.

But this was the first time Ash had given it entire cabbages like this.

In Larvavine's memory, this amount seemed to match the portion of food Ash would usually consume in a day.

Giving it all to Larvavine now—would she go hungry later?

Larvavine had experienced hunger before; it was not a pleasant feeling.

So, with its inquisitive gaze, it seemed to be asking Ash if she needed to take back some of the cabbages she had offered.

In truth, Larvavine wasn't in desperate need of food here in the little park.

While the leaves of the trees didn't taste as good as the cruciferous vegetables it loved, they were enough to fill its stomach every day.

"It's fine, these are all for you." Ash, who had grown accustomed to Larvavine's gestures and cry over the past week, could roughly understand what it wanted to convey.

Ash smiled and picked up another bag she had brought with her.

She opened it in front of Larvavine, and showed it the contents.

"Look, this is mine."

Larvavine stretched its head forward to peer into the bag Ash had opened.

Sure enough, as Ash said, inside the bag were a small packet of white powder and two bright orange carrots.

Larvavine didn't know how that packet of white powder could satisfy hunger, but it recognized the carrots.

A few days ago, Ash had given it half a carrot—sweet and filling.

Seeing that Ash had her own food, Larvavine no longer hesitated.

Larvavine had long been tempted by the enticing aroma of the cabbages, drooling in anticipation.

Now, without reservations, it crawled forward a couple of steps, draping most of its body directly over one of the cabbages.

Then, it began munching enthusiastically, the crunching sound of its bites echoing faintly in the quiet park.

Watching this, Ash couldn't help but smile, the corners of her lips curling upward.

"Take it slow," she said, reaching out to pick up the other cabbage that Larvavine hadn't yet nibbled on and moving it aside.

Then, she gently patted Larvavine's head, which was covered in a fine layer of nearly invisible, soft fuzz.

"This has to last you for the next few days. If you finish it all now, you'll be stuck gnawing on the leaves from the park trees later."

"Larvanine...?"

Larvavine paused mid-bite and looked up at Ash with a puzzled expression, clearly not understanding what she meant.

Ash thought for a moment and decided to explain it to Larvanine.

"I'm heading to Azure Bay Mountain tomorrow to look for something. It might take me a few days to come back... These two cabbages are meant to be your food while I'm away. Be careful here in the park and watch out for those Avis Spirit Beasts that rest here. Don't let them eat you."

Larvavine's antennae twitched, and though it still seemed confused, it listened attentively to Ash's words.
