Chapter 1 - Oreiha

To be wandering the endless white void. Drawings scattered across the snow-white floor with no texture. Darkness from a singular lamp illuminated the space.

No matter where Orei decided to walk the darkness followed her, always shining from above like a curse. Before she knew it the colors she used to have had blemished with ichor.

It was as if an author had drenched her in an ink container, completely erasing her existence.

With her grey thin fingers she reached out for the knife beside her in the blank world. She held it tight as if it held meaning. With eyes filled with exhaustion and emptiness, she laid down flat on her back and reached out to one of the drawings lying next to her.

Her eye bags made her eyes heavy as she scrutinized the drawing. It was red. Something that didn't exist in this world. It was a drawing of a bloodied head dripping with blood.

Without panic, she tossed around in the void feeling the light above her follow. She grabbed another piece of paper and held it up towards the light. It was a drawing of a guy cooking. As the light pierced through the thin layer of paper it revealed a sinister detail, a hand in the pan.

She let the paper fall gracefully and it swung around in the air before landing next to her.

"How long have I been here?"

Staring into the pitch black lamp above her head Orei took a deep breath. Knowing exactly what she had to do.

No matter how many times she did it, she couldn't get used to that feeling. The nerves in her arms automatically moved. It was as if she was being controlled like a marionette on a string. Her hands trembled as she found herself with the knife inside her abdomen.

Pressure dropped as she felt air escaping her insides. Guts started to spill out as she guided the knife upwards.

Having already closed her eyes she took another labored breath before all the blood of her body poured onto the empty canvas.

The morning sun started to rise, setting a start for yet another good morning. Her eyes fluttered open as she felt the sun hit her eyelids.

Her room was a mess, comparable to a rat's den. Cardboard boxes covered the room, with dirty clothing spread across the floor. She looked at the time, it was 6 am. A Tuesday morning. But she didn't have school or any activities planned out. Even though she was 16, she hasn't attended school for 3 years now.

~RING RING RING~

Her mom was calling her, she picked up her phone and put it against her ear.

"1 /0^3 70U…"

Weird static was heard from the other side. As she sensed something calamitous coming from the call.

She immediately hung up the call before her insanity took over.

~RING RING RING~

Again her mom was calling, she looked at her mom's name on her phone before hesitantly pressing the accept button.

"OREI! Why did you hang up on your mother?" Her mother's stern voice pierced her ears.

It wasn't that weird static but her mom. She apologized but her mom just brushed it off.

She scolded Orei for not doing any of her chores before telling her to go get something to eat.

"Mom, you don't need to worry, I take care of myself, okay?"

A deep disappointed sigh came through the phone.

"Your friend wanted to let you know that they are gonna visit you today, make sure to say hi okay?"

Orei didn't say anything and just listened, she didn't think any of her friends would visit her. The last time they visited was over 3 years ago.

She reassured her mother that she would do it. Finally sounding pleased her mom told her to take care and hung up.

Orei went back to bed and cuddled up with her plushie. So hard that it was smooshed between her arms. She stared at it, but as she started to reminisce the memories of her brother giving it to her when she was just a little kid, blood ran down the plushie's dark pearl eyes. The plush was crying blood and immediately she got goosebumps and threw it as hard as possible against the wall.

She huddled up in the corner of her bed with her blanket around her. Her body was shaking, staring intently at the plush lying motionless on the floor.
