In the awkward silence Jecca's eyes wide as they can be. She averted her eyes towards the ground, fake laughing a little bit.
"I didn't think you would open the door…"
Jecca started to rub her arm as Orei stood there silently staring at her brand-new white Air Jordans.
"Man, you haven't changed a bit have you?"
Orei glanced up towards Jecca's face and saw how much her friend had changed. Her once short cute black bobcut had transformed into a long silky cosmic waterfall. Her hair was now purple and reached all the way to her waist.
In spite of all of the missed time we had and how much we had been away from each other, Jecca had a bright smile on her face, reassuring that everything was as it was once before.
"It is pretty chilly outside, can I come in?"
She pointed into my house and slightly tilted her head. Orei reluctantly grabbed the edge of the door resisting the urge to escape the situation.
Orei finally made up her mind after a few seconds of hesitation. She took a step to the side and let her friend into her house.
Jecca looked around the house whilst slowly removing her jacket and scarf. She tossed the clothes onto the couch and joyfully walked around Orei's house.
"Man, it was such a long time ago since I was here."
She looked at all the pictures of Orei's family on the wall and furniture. With a bittersweet smile, she took up one of them, it was Ore and her brother in the photo.
Gently setting it down she walked back towards me and sat down on the couch.
"So Orei, how have ya been doing?"
…
"C'mon don't be so stale, sit down!" She eagerly encouraged.
Lowering her stiff body down onto the sofa Jecca asked her if she wanted to do something fun.
"School's been so boring lately…" Jecca heavily sighed.
"All that Y= CA^x and function shit and don't even get me started on derivatives UGHHH!"
Orei stared blankly at her friend who was having a mental breakdown due to calculus.
Lying down taking a deep melodramatic sigh, Jecca started to ask Orei questions about her life and how she was having it.
No words left Orei's mouth during the whole altercation, she just nodded, shook her head or stared blankly at Jecca. But weirdly enough Jecca fully understood her body language as if she was talking normally.
The clock struck 8 and her friend suddenly remembered she had class in 15 minutes.
"Ah, shit…"
She hurriedly took her jacket and it basically automatically merged with her in mere milliseconds. Jecca smiled brightly at her and told her that she would come back after school. She waved at Orei furiously before giving a thumbs-up. After that, she ran off at the speed of an ostrich.
Orei looked back at the couch Jecca was sitting on and saw the scarf that she had forgotten. She took it and hung it onto a hook before slowly making her way to the kitchen.
The fridge was empty, her mom hadn't refilled it yet but, in the back of the fridge behind all the jars of pickles and fruits was a wrapped-up piece of steak. Upon closer inspection, it looked green and somewhat funny.
Her stomach growled whilst she was holding it. She decided it would be better than being hungry and placed it onto a plate before shoving it into the microwave at maximum strength.
The steak was spinning around in circles and Orei had her face right up against the microwave, staring as her food gradually got cooked. Sounds of bubbling and crackling could be heard from inside the microwave as it jumped around on the plate.
After 5 minutes of microwaving her steak, she pulled it out and a weird foul smell came from the food. She scrapped off bits of green stuff from her steak and started to eat it.
It didn't taste like anything. It had a strong smell but it didn't give any flavors. She continued chewing it, over and over again until finally swallowing. It was like eating cardboard but she didn't stop until the whole plate was empty.
Immediately after finishing her food, she felt her stomach churning as weird growling noises came from her. And not before long she started to gag. In a flash, she ran towards the bathroom and threw up.
She looked at the vomit in the toilet bowl and thought that it was just like her. Standing up and walking over towards the mirror, Orei stared into her lifeless eyes. The black lamp appeared in the reflection, as she saw a dark entity standing behind her. It had eyes all over its body and moved frantically and spontaneously in jerky movements. She was used to it at this point, she had lived with this dark entity for over three years now and knew that she would be fine.
Finally having enough of seeing her reflection she turned around and headed out but before she could exit she caught a glimpse of something in the corner of her eye. She fully rotated her head and saw her brother's lifeless body hanging from the bathroom ceiling.
The moment she saw that she rushed out of the bathroom and slammed the door. Orei ran straight to her bedroom and sat down on her bed. She would just escape from this world, from her reality.
