'No matter how weak or stupid the rebels look, who would willingly wait for their deaths? It must definitely be a trap!
Look, they've noticed us right now but they're not even running away!' Luther urged.
Qana scoffed and replied, 'That's because they know there's no way to run.'
'A cornered dog will let go of all inhibitions and fight when its life is threatened. You're not expecting the rebels to rinse their necks and present themselves to be beheaded, are you?'
A tense faceoff happened as Qana and Luther refused to come to a consensus.
'Qana is right. There's no need for excessive caution; if we want to know what kind of machine it is, all we need to do is attack!' Naz cracked his knuckles impatiently.
As expected of Pugilists… always thinking everything can be solved with their fists instead of their brains. That's why I don't like taking the warrior class even in games!
Ever since he had heard of Espers and Pugilists, he had considered it an advanced extension of the mage and warrior or fighter classification in games.
And the actions of Qana and Naz, the two Pugilists in the squad, directly confirmed Luther's misgivings about those who cultivated their body rather than their minds.
Yoselin and Fubar, the Espers, were more rational; they had realized something was off.
The Pugilists though were warmongers and battle maniacs who despite clear indications that something was not right, still wanted to charge into the enemy camp.
Luther decided to play one last card to prevent the squad from rushing to their deaths.
With a deep breath, he said, 'My super power is resonance vibration. It allows me to sense the frequencies of lifeforms and other matter and achieve resonance with them through vibration.
Once I achieve resonance with any matter, I can freely manipulate it through vibration.
Naturally, I can sense the mental state of the rebels ahead; they're not scared at all! If anything, they have heightened anticipation and excitement!'
Everyone in the squad looked at Luther in shock.
No one casually revealed their super power unless they trusted the person they were telling very much!
After all, knowing the power of a person could directly influence the outcome of a battle and even allow an ambush.
Enemies could make targeted plans which handicapped and countered a super power, rendering unfortunate Supers helpless!
Bernoni had warned Luther against it but in the end, he decided to do that to win his squad's trust.
Firstly, he had nothing to fear since this world was virtual, like a game.
Besides, if he didn't resort to such drastic measures, Naz could use his powers as captain to order the squad to launch an attack which would lead to a total wipeout.
'Don't you know telling your super power to people is a taboo?!' Yoselin yelled at Luther, her mighty chest heaving in anger.
Luther nodded solemnly. 'I understand the risks involved but I've decided to trust you all. Please, don't rush in, it's a trap.'
Fubar nodded slowly, observing Luther to see if he was lying.
Technically, Luther wasn't lying. After all, in the failed attack, when he was about to manipulate the rebel's cell activity, he had noticed his emotional state in the process.
'So that's why you can heal and do all that strange, kinky stuff to people's bodies… it's through vibration. You're manipulating cell activity,' Qana narrowed her eyes.
Luther's lips twitched. Why did it sound so weird when she put it that way?
Naz's eyebrows shot up from his goggles. 'From this distance you can sense the mental state of the rebels?
We're about six hundred meters away from them. You're only in the Energy Condensation stage; your power can't possibly go that far!'
It was common knowledge that Supers and most especially Espers, had a range of effectiveness for the usage of their power.
At the Awakened stage, it was anywhere from 1-9 meters.
At the Energy Condensation stage, it ranged from 10 to 99 meters.
At the Energy Core Formation stage, it could cover 100 meters at the least, to 1,000 meters.
Upon reaching the Ascendant stage, the ranges would increase exponentially, to the point that the range of the usage of their powers became simply frightening, covering massive distances.
At even higher stages, it wasn't impossible to have an attack range of billions and trillions of kilometers!
Naz couldn't help but find it suspicious that Luther's range for using his power could reach a distance of over hundreds of meters.
It was impossible; Luther was lying!
Naz narrowed his eyes and every good impression he had of Luther vanished in an instant.
It would have been explainable if Luther was at the Energy Core Formation stage but he simply wasn't.
Luther though, had been expecting them to be skeptical of his explanation and cracked a grin. He had a way he could justify himself; Eighth Gate!
*BOOOOOOOOMM!
Everyone in the squad retreated in shock.
'Energy Core Formation… His aura's at the Energy Core Formation!' Yoselin gasped.
How was it possible for a Super to elevate their strength to the next stage? It was highly improbable; unless the person was already at that stage and had suppressed his power.
But how old was Luther?
Yoselin didn't think he reached twenty; he was too young to be an expert at the Energy Core Formation level!
Fubar gulped and asked, 'Are you at the Energy Core Formation realm already?'
Luther shook his head and closed the Eighth Gate. 'It's another application of my power. I can directly enhance my body to the next stage, but it's very taxing.'
Naz then asked, 'So does that mean you become like an Energy Core Formation Stage Pugilist?'
'Not really; my power is elevated too. It's as if I've become a Energy Core Formation expert.'
Silence soon filled the squad as everyone looked at Luther, their eyes betraying their surprise.
They hadn't expected this new recruit to be so stunning!
With his healing power and his ability to instantly boost himself to the next stage, didn't it mean that the squad's combat ability had risen exponentially?
On battlefields like this, the experts who truly mattered were those at the Energy Core Formation.
Ascendants were too rare and they were probably fighting their own battles in the sky.
A few moments later, Naz looked and sighed. 'Fine. If you think it's a trap, it doesn't hurt to exercise caution.'
Luther instantly felt elated.
He had revealed his power and his trump card but it was worth it!
He had been able to prevent the squad from rushing into their deaths like headless chickens.
All that remained was a way to figure out how to wipe the rebel outpost under the indiscriminate fire of the tripod war machine.
'We have to fool them and make them think we don't know it's a trap. Let's charge,' Luther said.
Naz's lips twitched.
Wasn't that what Luther had been trying to prevent him from making the squad do all along?
'Don't worry, we're not going in recklessly. I have a plan,' Luther assured.
