Chereads / To kill or not to kill / Chapter 14 - chapter 14

Chapter 14 - chapter 14

Avery walked to the kitchen with the mind to commit murder.

" Morning sunshine, I made some kabogla if you are hungry."

" I am hungry." Avery replied as Alister filled her plate.

And they both sat eating in silence relishing the complex flavors added through petridishing.

" You are on street patrol today." Alister casually informed her.

" What about the hero's party?!" Avery questioned.

" Avery the hero's party are not the only ones who need protecting. If you wish to make a difference in this world you need to perform all your duties. That includes street patrol." Alister spoke soothingly.

And with that Alister successfully thwarted all her plans of doing something reckless.

Avery walked on her designated route feeling angry but she made sure not to show it on her face.

Thinking of the various ways she could kill the party she almost missed the whoosh of the wind as someone ran past her and the unmistakable cry of someone yelling'Thief'.

Avery's body moved before she could even think.

The alleged thief was fast. Avery was barely able to keep up as they weaved through the crowd. The thief making sudden turns onto random streets in order to lose her.

Then the thief made a foolish mistake by turning down a dead end street.

The thief being cornered threw down a smoke bomb that sent Avery into a coughing fit( even though most smoke didn't affect her).

When the smoke cleared the thief was gone. She tried to track her but was unsuccessful. She then returned to the scene of the crime and spoke to potential witnesses in order to discern the identity of the thief.

Identity: unknown

Description: Short thin. Wearing brown clock. Facial features unknown. Species unknown gender unknown.

Last seen: alleyway behind the electric supply store.

Mana signature: too faint to track

Avery submitted the file at the end of her shift.

" As expected of Alister's daughter. Everything filled perfectly." The clerk commented.

Avery didn't reply and left as soon as she was cleared to do so.

She met with Caster and Irisa near the entrance of the town. Irisa had convinced them to volunteer for planting and caring for a new section of the forest. It was previously destroyed due to flooding the previous year.

The three of them would be in charge of section A.

Since this was Irisa's coming of age test , they were all ready to put their all into growing healthy and strong plants.

That was until they saw the state the section was in .

There was no soil just rock. Solid rock . It was almost completely barren except for a small strip of soil next to the river.

The jagged rocks almost ripped through their shoes and Avery almost fell into the hidden holes in the ground twice, Caster saved her both times.

They decided to abandon all previous plans and survey the land before doing anything.

Avery was making her way across the section when she saw something blood on some particularly pointy rocks that hid a large ditch.

The blood smelled fresh.
