Chereads / To kill or not to kill / Chapter 2 - chapter 2

Chapter 2 - chapter 2

Charlotte looked back to see the guards cutting down the last of her kin. Her mind spun with emotions. Rage ,Hatred ,Fear, and a restlessness that she couldn't quite place.

She had to move.

She flung her body into the forest surrounding the city before the guards could notice her. She didn't look back. Couldn't look back.

She ran until dawn broke.

Her body collapsing next to a small pond. Unable to take another step. Her heavy breathing was the only indicator of her being alive as she lay there motionless. Her stomach chose that moment to make itself known as it rumbled furiously.

She realized that her last meal was dinner before the attack and she had gone two whole days without food or water.

She opened the bag her mother had packed to find the food and water her mother had tossed in there.

Tears streamed down her eyes as she ate her mother's cooking for the very last time .

Wiping the tears from her eyes she drank the last sips of water and refilled the canteen from the pond. She then found a small crack in a dead tree where she decided to take a nap.

As she curled up to sleep her mind drifted to all the horrific scenes she witnessed. Finally she fell into a dreamless sleep.

A rustling sound woke her up.Her senses were on high alert .

"Ugh ... Why do we have to do this patrol. It's not like any one of those monsters could have fled in the first place cause of that weird ceremony."

"Take your job seriously or else we will all be punished."

The origin of there voices soon came into view in the form of three guards. They seemed to be looking for anyone who managed to escape the massacre.Though no one could have escaped because the aëßgtg festival required all demons to gather in one place and prevented them from leaving the group for a whole week. A happy occasion that strengthened the bond within the demons.

Realistically, Charlotte should not have been able to leave the city unless she moved with the entirety of her species.

As the voices of the guards faded away a realization dawned on her. Her entire species had been killed.

She was all alone in this world.

Her breathing quickened at the thought and she started hyperventilating as her head spun.

By the time she calmed down enough to be aware of her surroundings again it was already morning.
