Chapter 2 - Prologue

Under the guise of secret government operations, a covert project was initiated in 1977, shrouded in secrecy.

A team of brilliant scientists embarked on a mission with one goal in mind,

To create a being of extraordinary abilities, reminiscent of the legendary Captain America.

Driven by the belief that their work would reshape history, they worked tirelessly, pushing the boundaries of human potential.

Days turned into nights as they experimented relentlessly, fueled by the promise of unlocking the secrets of superhuman abilities. Their goal was to engineer a being of unparalleled strength, agility, and intelligence, capable of replicating any physical feat or combat technique with a single observation.

So, after years of countless hours of experimentation, the team achieved a momentous breakthrough in 1980.

They had successfully created Subject K4-712,

A being or rather... A "boy" that defied all expectations. With the strength of more than twenty men, incredible reflexes, unmatched agility, and the ability to master any fighting style, K4-712, affectionately known as "Luke," was everything they had hoped for and possibly more.

Luke's success was not solely due to scientific breakthroughs but also the care and kindness shown by the scientists, particularly Dr. Faraday, the program director. Dr. Faraday, who had lost his own son, treated Luke with the love and care of a father.

The scientists followed Dr. Faraday's instructions to prevent any further trauma, gaining Luke's trust and creating a supportive environment that encouraged emotional stability. ThisĀ approach yielded remarkable results. Luke not only developed extraordinary physical abilities but also displayed exceptional emotional maturity and control. This unique connection was crucial to the program's success, fostering trust between Luke and the team of scientists.

Furthermore, he possessed extraordinary healing abilities, recovering from injuries that would be fatal to others at an astonishing rate. Additionally, his aging process was significantly slowed, a peculiar observation that opened up new avenues for research into his unique genetic makeup. The implications of Luke's abilities were staggering. He had become a living weapon, capable of operating endlessly without rest, taking on missions and tasks that would be impossible for any ordinary human. His unmatched physical and mental prowess made him an invaluable asset to the government.

Luke's training in hand-to-hand combat, CQC, and various martial arts became second nature to him. He quickly surpassed his trainers, effortlessly defeating his opponents. Intrigued by the elegance and power of the katana, he dedicated himself to mastering this weapon, quickly becoming a skilled swordsman.

Despite his extraordinary capabilities, Luke remained a happy and well-adjusted young man. Homeschooled by the scientists and treated as a son by Dr. Faraday, he experienced a fulfilling childhood.

For Dr. Faraday, this was a dream realized, a chance to raise the son he had always longed for.

Tragedy struck when news of Dr. Faraday's death in an explosion reached the team. Luke was devastated by the loss of the man he considered his father. The explosion not only destroyed Dr. Faraday's home but also shattered Luke's world. The tragedy extended further, as every other scientist involved in Luke's program also died of unnatural causes two weeks later.

The government took Luke under their wing, but he couldn't shake the feeling of being a pawn in a game he hadn't chosen. The loss of his father figure left him feeling lost and alone, mirroring the fate of Dr. Erskine, the creator of the original super soldier serum. Luke's future was uncertain, but he knew he had to remain vigilant and prepared for anything.

Luke POV

~Outside a coffee shop, New York, June 1, 2010, ~

"You sure about that? Don't waste my time. Yes or no?" Fury asks me while carefully sipping his coffee, his one, and only good eye never leaving mine.

"For the love of god, Fury, I don't see any reason to get back out there. Nothing interesting is happening and I don't see why I should bother coming back," I answered, barely hiding the irritation in my voice as I stirred my coffee.

Fury smirks, leans back. "Who knows?" He shrugs. "Maybe saying it out loud'll jinx it. Then we might actually have somethin' worth our time for once."

"I have no idea anymore," I said to him, watching the cars zoom by on the road.

"Well," Fury pushes back from the table, his cup empty. He fixes me with that one-eyed stare. "Hundred bucks says somethin' happens." Then he's gone, swallowed up by that black SUV of his.

"Make that 500," I said to him with certainty as I watched him open the door, "and I'll double it if I lose." I added "You can count on it." Said Fury before he got in the SUV and left.

---

The steam from my forgotten coffee swirled up to meet the city air as I hopped on my bike, leaving the cafe's chatter behind. Cruising past the park, I saw the kids lost in their own world of laughter. It was a snapshot of simpler times.

The wind whipped through my hair, carrying Fury's cryptic words back to me. "Interesting" he said, huh? What the hell was that supposed to mean? Was this gonna be a whole new chapter in my crazy New York life? Or just another day at my merc job for S.H.E.I.L.D.? I tried to shake it off, but those questions kept gnawing at me.
