Megan gripped the steering wheel of the car with her white knuckles, her heart racing fast.
"I should've listened to him,I hate myself right now!" she muttered, bitterly slamming her fists against the steering wheel as if it would somehow push the car forward through the maddening traffic, her heart racing even more. If she could just get to the hospital faster, if she could just see him, perhaps everything would be alright.
Frustration coursed through her, clenching her jaw, little tears prickling at the corners of her eyes. "Come on, come on, get the hell out of the way" she shouted hitting her hand against the steering.
Her phone kept ringing loud, seeing it was from Ms Sarah increased her panic.
Megan finally reached a red light point and Without considering the consequences, she threw open the driver's side door and dashed out of the car, her heart pounding wildly and her breaths coming in short gasps, heavy drop of sweats dripping down her face.
"What the hell are you doing psycho, get back in the damn car!!" A voice called behind her, but she didn't stop. All that mattered now was reaching her father, she slowly approached the hospital bursting through the hospital doors.
"Excuse me! My dad, Nelson Lorenzo,He was brought in earlier…," Megan panted, trying to catch her breath.
"Right this way," the nurse said, leading her through the corridors. She finally approached the Room, her hand shaking as she reached for the doorknob.
Taking a deep breath, she pushed the door open slowly.
"Dad! I'm here," rushing to his side to grab his hands.
"I should've listened, I'm so sorry for hurting you" she said squeezing his hand tighter. "I was so worried. I thought... I thought I was going to lose you."
"You don't deserve to be here" a voice pulled her back
Turning she found her mom standing behind the door, her eyes piercing heavily at Megan.
"Mom…, mom I'm so sorry,I never meant to hurt dad" Megan said slowly walking to her Mom to hold her hand but she pulled back.
"Megan, pray he gets better, I'll never forgive you if something bad happens" her mom retorted.
"Mom please stop it, he's definitely going to get better and can we not bring up that topic at this moment"
"I swear I will destroy every single little thing you have with him Megan, just you wait and see"
"What? There's no way I'm letting you guys control me, it's my choice and I chose to be with Aiden" Megan replied angrily
"I'm stepping out for a bit, I'm getting sick of all this" Megan uttered walking out of the room.
Megan sat on the chair outside the hospital, her eyes closed, trying to crack her head, she felt a light touch on her shoulders
Turning around she found a little girl sitting on a wheelchair extending a bracelet to her.
"Hi, I'm Emily"
"Hey, and I'm Megan, how may I help" Megan replied with a smile.
"This is for you, you can give this to whoever you would like to spend your life with"
" Awwn, that's so sweet of you darling" Megan said pinching her cheeks softly.
"And I hope you keep getting stronger and better, sweetie" Megan continued.
"Where the hell are you Emily" a voice echoed behind
An elderly man walked to hurriedly, panting heavily.
"Emily what are you doing here, I'm so sorry bothering you" the man apologized
"Nahh, it's okay, you know she's one cute little girl" Megan responded with a smile.
The man held the wheelchair at once rolling her back.
"Bye Emily" Megan waved chuckling.
Letting out a sigh and pulling her phone from the jacket she wore, she dialed a number calling it in anticipation.
"Hey, who's this, Aiden isn't here, you can call back some other time" a woman voice echoed over the phone sending chills down her spine.
"That's a woman voice,is Aiden with a woman? We just last saw an hour ago?
After series of questions popping through her mind she lifted her phone ,ready to give another try.
It took what seemed like eternity before a voice was finally heard.
"Hey, babe, what's up, what are you doing,I tried reaching you, but it didn't went through" Aiden voice sounded
" Yah, just checked my phone to see some missed calls from you"
"How's your dad,I hope he's aight" Aiden asked with a worried tone.
"Ah, about that, it's kind of toxic, but…he'll be good"
"Do you have anyone around,I called back a few minutes ago and I'm sure I heard the voice of a woman speaking" Megan continued.
"For a while they both stayed quiet without saying a word.
"Oh, about that, my sister, yeah… my sister, she came around, you know it's been a while"
"Are you talking about Cassie" Megan asked
"Ah.. yeah, Cassie," Aiden replied
"Okay,my greetings to her, I'll text you when I get home babe"
"It's fine, stay safe" Aiden said quickly hanging up.
"His voice sounds so tensed,.... Whatever though" Megan thought rolling her eyes.
A few hours had passed since she last saw her father, and every minute felt like an eternity.
Just then, a nurse in scrubs appeared, her smile bright.
"Excuse me Ma'am?" the nurse called out, her voice cutting through Megan's thoughts.
"Yes!" Megan sprang to her feet, eyes wide with anticipation, her heart pounding in her chest.
"Your father just woke up,You can go see him now," the nurse said.
Like a bolt of lightning, the news electrified Megan. "Thank you!" She barely heard the nurse's response as she dashed in with no hesitation down the walkway.
She opened the door slowly, and there he was—her dad—sitting up on the bed, his back resting against a plush pillow. The sight of him struck her like a wave.
"Dad!" she exclaimed, rushing forward without a second thought.
Before he could respond, she enveloped him in a tight hug, wrapping her arms around his frail shoulders The warmth of his body against hers felt so right, so grounding after the tumult of emotions she had endured just hours before.
"Megan," he murmured, his voice muffled against her hair but filled with a tenderness that made her heart ache. He hesitated for a moment, before placing a hand on her back, gently returning the embrace.
"I was so scared, dad and I'm so sorry for hurting you dad" she whispered, tears streaming down her cheeks, "I thought… I thought I'd lost you."
"I'm still here," he replied softly, pulling back just enough to look into her tear-filled eyes. " it's fine And I'm okay"
He smiled gently, still looking a bit weary "You don't have to apologize, sweetheart, besides we still have a lot to talk about hmm,so reserve your speech for later and maybe get a little prepared.
Megan knew her parents would stop at nothing to get Aiden out the way, but somehow she felt she had to do something sooner,in order to keep Aiden beside her.
"Prepare for what,I know dad is absolutely up to something,he seems so relaxed,he should be lashing on me right now, something is definitely up" Megan thought creasing her brows slightly.
