Diego sat across the table from Diana in her living room, the atmosphere thick with unspoken tension. Diego piercing gaze never left Diana without breaking eye contact.
Diego brought out some documents and photographs sliding them across the table. The papers rustled softly against one another as they came to rest before Diana, who caught the edges with the tips of her fingers, her eyes never wavering from Diego's unyielding gaze. There was a weight in the room—something unspoken that hung heavily between them.
"What's this?" she asked, her tone cool and demanding, although her eyes remained locked on Diego.
"Check it out," Diego replied, leaning against the wall with his arms crossed, a hint of impatience creeping into his posture.
Diana flipped through the papers with her tiny fingers, her eyes scanning the contents with quick intensity. Finally, she reached the photographs, her breath hitching slightly as she pulled one into view—a candid shot of a woman, smiling brightly against the backdrop of a sunlit park. The woman radiated warmth and life,a stark contrast to the cold determination on Diana's expression.
Few minutes passed and Diana finally raised her head, meeting Diego's gaze with a serious expression.
"She's not that pretty. What do your parents see in her?" Diana uttered, dismissing the image with a flick of her wrist as if it were merely an annoyance.
Diego arched an eyebrow, the corner of his mouth twitching in amusement— "It's okay. I'll get rid of her," she replied, his voice steady, laced with a strong determination that Diego couldn't ignore.
"So, what do you plan on doing?" he asked.
"Leave it to me," she responded but there was an edge that hinted at something darker beneath. "I'll take care of it from here."
Diego stared at her for a moment, an unreadable expression etched on his face, as if he were peeling back the layers of her intentions. He sensed the churning emotions beneath her composed facade. Slowly, he reached out, extending his hand across the table to close the space between them.
"Baby, I've missed you," he confessed, his voice softening, attempting to rekindle whatever misunderstandings they had, "You've been ignoring my calls and messages Diana."
Diana's eyes narrowed slightly
"If that's all you have to say, you can start taking your leave," she interrupted curtly, withdrawing her hand from his grasp.
"Is that how you really feel?" Diego asked softly, He leaned back, removing his hand as if it were burned. "I thought we had something worth fighting for."
"I mean, you can't be ignoring me just because we're getting engaged,I understand you don't want this yet, but I promised not to proceed with the marriage process" Diego retorted sharply, his eyes searching her eyes.
Diana scoffed lightly, her disdain manifesting once more as she tossed her hair over her shoulder, the confidence radiating from her posture. "You mean the way you fight for your family's approval?" she countered, her words cutting through "You expect me to sit idly while you figure this all out? While they decide the future you should have?"
Diego felt the sting of her words piercing into him sharply.
"Diana, I'm trying to take charge of my life. I'm trying to break free from what they want me to be. You should understand that."
"Understand?" she echoed, disbelief clear in her eyes. "You think I'm just going to sit back and watch you fall into their plans? That woman—they want her to be your future. All because she's the daughter of some crazy Rich bastards
"You know what, I'm not having this conversation with you, dummy" Diana barked slamming her hands against the table, she stood up from her seat storming out in annoyance.
Diego hurried after Diana immediately "Diana, Diana... Diana!" he called out running his hand through his hair Frustratingly.
"Diana, wait!" Diego's voice rose, Diana didn't turn around; instead, she picked up her pace making Diego to bit his lip hard He darted forward, closing the gap between them, shouting again, "I'm talking to you! Don't walk out on me!"
In a swift, impulsive move, Diego grabbed her hand, pushing her gently against the wall forcing her to face him. The intimacy of their bodies felt electrified, but still the atmosphere was tensed.
"What the hell is wrong with you?" he demanded, his eyes staring into hers for a moment "Why do you so dread the thought of getting engaged to me? Don't you love me? I'm trying to fix things just so I can be with you, but you just can't see that!" His voice was now a mix of both fraustration and anger.
"Are you done? Then get your stinky hands off me!" Diana snapped, her words laced with annoyance. She pushed him back with surprising force, causing Diego to feel her rejection like a knife, the cold steel of her words cutting into him deeply like a knife.
He reached for her again, taking her hand one more time, pulling her back toward him. "Give me a damn answer. Do you love me?" His voice dropped, quieter now, a plea rather than a demand. "I can't be spending the rest of my life with a girl who can't even bear the thought of getting engaged to me."
They locked eyes, silence hanging heavily around them, until Diana finally looked away, exhaling a heavy sigh as if the weight of the world rested on her shoulders. The air crackled with unspoken words for another moment.
"Get out right this instant, and I never want to see your face again," she spat, her voice firm. She turned on her heel, walking away.
"Wait, are you calling off this whole thing?" Diego pursued her, fear gripping him at once, The thought of losing her felt like a nightmare.
"Forget about this whole engagement stuff and get lost!" Diana roared.
"What?" he exhaled in disbelief, panic rising in his throat. "Babe, don't do this! I'm sorry, I never meant to hurt you." He reached out, wrapping his arms around her from behind,His heart racing heavily, each second stretching into eternity as he clung to her tightly.
For a moment, the world stilled. Diana froze, and Diego could feel her body trembling against his. "What do you want me to say?" she murmured, her tone softer now .
"I want you to trust me," he whispered, his breath warm against her neck. "I want us to have a future together, but we can't build anything on uncertainty and fear. Let me in, Diana. Share your fears with me"
She leaned back against him, and in that heartbeat, he felt the battle within her. "It's not that simple, Diego. You don't understand what's at stake. If I say yes, if I commit…" her voice trailed off, the weight of her words settling heavily between them, it's me against your parents, they obviously don't want me in".
Diego softened his grip, "No baby, it's us against them,so let's face it together. It's going to be a bit messy, but it's worth fighting for. You're worth it."
With a shaky inhale, Diana turned her head slightly, her cheek brushing against his shoulder .
At this moment he felt he would do anything to keep her beside him no matter what, even if it means going against his parents.
