Sofia POV
'This is Margaret, the head maid around here. She is the one in charge of you, anything you need, you ask her.'
Bryan informed me and I looked at the woman in front of me. She had a serious face. She appeared to be in her early fifties and the small wrinkles on her face made her look scary.
'Nice to meet you, ma'am.' I smiled at her and she smiled a little.
'Margaret, I'm leaving her in your care.'
'Thank you, Bryan.' With that, Bryan turned around to leave us. I stared back at Margaret and she was back to her poker face.
'So, you are the human girl.' I didn't know what to say so I nodded.
'You shall speak when spoken to', she said curtly and I stupidly blinked my eyes. 'Didn't you hear what I said?'
'Yes ma'am, I'm the human girl.' I bowed my head slightly.
'Don't expect me to go easy on you just because you are a weakling. Here we work. I don't care where or how you lived but here, I'm your boss. I expect nothing but the best. Are we clear?'
'Crystal.'
'Good. Lisa will show you around and after that, you start work.' She signaled for the girl, Lisa, to come to us and after that, she left us alone.
'I see you have met the witch,' Lisa whispered into my ear before continuing, 'Hi, I'm Lisa.'
'Sofia. And why is she called the witch?' I asked as we began to walk towards the stairs.
'Because she is a witch. She is just being kind because you are fresh meat but give it a day or two, you will see.' She elbowed me lightly and I chuckled.
'We have never had a human stay before. You must be special.'
'Believe me, I'm not. I just begged His Highness to let me stay here.'
'And he just agreed?' She asked curiously.
'I guess so.' She just hummed and I felt there was more to it. 'What?'
'Nothing. Just be careful though, His Highness has a reputation.' I just shrugged my shoulders and decided to let it go.
'These are the Royal chambers. King and Queen are on the left while Prince Alex is on the right.' She told me. This place was huge.
We passed some maids and they just ignored us. One actually made a nasty remark about me but I just ignored them. I saw we were about to head back but there were still stairs going up.
'Aren't we going up?' I asked Lisa.
'That floor is forbidden. Nobody but the royal family goes up there.'
'But why?'
'Those are the rules.' A voice said from behind us. I stiffened and then realised it was just Margaret.
'The tour is over. Get to work.' She said sternly. I turned around to leave but not without another look at the stairs.
I should probably let it go, I thought to myself, although I felt something calling me up there.
This place was swarming with servants, which made work a little bit easier.
'You there', Margaret pointed at me, 'you will join Lisa on her duties.'
'Yes ma'am.' I was happy I had someone I knew working with me.
'Now hurry along, they are waiting.' She clapped her hands and Lisa and I and other servants began to work around.
I entered the dining room with my tray of food. The King was seated at the head of the table. Now I know where the prince got his looks from. He didn't look a day over thirty. He had blonde hair just like his son. They looked more like brothers than father and son.
My eyes went to the Queen. My God, she was breathtaking. I would kill for a skin like that. She had striking green eyes that went well with her red hair.
I placed the tray on the table and turned to leave before a sharp voice almost made me fall.
'Wait!' The Queen said and sniffed in the air like a dog.
"Well, she is a dog." A voice sounded in my head.
"Look who's back." I fought the urge to roll my eyes. I decided to focus on the Queen who was coming towards me.
'Have we met before?' She asked me. Of all the questions she could possibly ask, this was never one of them. I just stared at her, not really knowing how to answer her.
'Mom, this is the human I was telling you about.' The prince chimed in. 'I decided to let her stay.'
'Your Majesties,' I curtsed.
'We have never kept a human before.' The queen was still looking at me when she replied.
I was getting a little uncomfortable under her strange gaze.
'Can we discuss this after lunch? I'm starving.' The king, who I had completely forgotten was present, spoke up and that took everyone out of their "moment".
The queen went back to her seat and everyone went back to their duties.
Everyone went back into the kitchen after finishing to serve the royal family.
'Not bad for a newcomer,' Margaret commented.
'Well, this stuff isn't new to me.' I said sadly.
My mind went back to the Bentley's. I wondered how they were doing. What about Mr William and Martha?
"Don't concern yourself with nonsense." The voice said again.
Uh, this stupid voice was starting to annoy me. Why didn't it appear when I needed it the most?
"Hey! I can hear you, you know. And I'm not a voice... I mean, I am but I have a name." The voice sounded upset and I couldn't help but chuckle. Was I really doing this?
"Well, what is your name?" So I guess I was really doing this.
"Anna."
"So, Anna, what are you doing in my head?"
"I'm a part of you, Sofia."
I was woken from my daze by Lisa's violent shaking.
'Are you okay?' She looked a little concerned.
'Yea, I'm fine.' I smiled at her and she smiled back.
We were about to head out when I heard the most gorgeous baritone I had never had.
I took a peak by the door with Sarah and a few more servants. Apparently I wasn't the only one completely mesmerised by that voice.
'Starting without me?' That voice had said while a man was descending down the stairs.
He took small steps almost like he was in slow motion, my eyes drawn to every step he made. He went and took a seat opposite the king and that was right infront of my eyes and every servant ogling at him.
He had blonde hair again, except his was longer than anyone's else's and was tied in a ponytail. I couldn't really see his eyes as he was wearing shades which somehow made him like a celebrity. My eyes travelled to his shirt which had three top buttons undone, revealing a small part of his tatoo on his chest.
'Who is he?' I heard someone whispering.
'I don't know, but he's a snack I could eat anytime.' Another one answered and I rolled my eyes irritated.
'Look at those delicious lips,' I heard Lisa whisper and my eyes went back to his face, his lips in particular.
I licked my lips unconsciously. I would be lying if I said they didn't look inviting.
Suddenly images started roaming in my head. I imagined those lips kissing every inch of my body. My eyes travelled to his hands and I imagined them touching me places. I let out a little moan and I didn't realise until Lisa nudged me in my shoulder.
'What?'
'What are thinking about?' I stared at her confused for a minute until I realised I had moaned earlier.
Shit.
'Nothing, just a little tired, I guess.? Lisa hummed in response as she went back to staring at my enigmatic man.
Wait, did I just say mine?
"Yea, you did." Anna laughed in my head. I cursed silently.
My eyes went back to his lips and he licked his bottom lip. I wanted to do that.
As if he heard me, I saw his lips curve into a smile before looking at my direction.
Everyone quickly backed away and I couldn't understand why my heart was beating fast.
'Spying on our guests, are we?' Margaret's voice announced and everyone quickly scattered and went by their respectful duties.
'You...', Margret pointed at me, 'take this to the table.' She handed me a tray filled with papaya.
I took the tray and headed towards the door to the dining room. I took a deep breathe, trying to calm my racing heart.
Why was I even nervous?
I walked in and everyone went quiet, probably because I wasn't meant to hear whatever they were discussing. I tried so hard not to stare at his direction.
'Can you hand me some of that, please?' I almost dropped the plate I was holding because of his voice. How can a voice have so much effect on me?
'Yes, sir.' I walked besides him and placed the plate in front of him. Our hands touched slightly when he touched his plate. I gasp lowly as goosebumps formed on my skin. I know he felt it too because I saw how he clenched his jaw. I subconsciously took a sniff at him and my God, did this man smell amazing.
'Hand me that also,' I looked at the prince who had his eyes on me and I tried my best not to feel annoyed.
I placed a plate infront of me and he made an attempt to "accidentally" touch me but I saw it coming and I quickly withdrew my hand.
I saw disappointment and a flash of anger but I couldn't care less. I took a small look at the man besides him before going out of the room.
