"People say the world changed with the appearance of soul eaters, but the truth is it actually changed when humankind started mutating" Enid walked to the couch, holding a cup of cold water in her hands, she handed it over to Berry gently, still speaking in a firm voice, "I understand that you are confused about your power or why you even have it in the first place. But I assure you Berry, everything is the way it is for a reason".
Berry looked at her intently, sensing the deeper meaning in her words, the thought of Caelum still lingered in his mind but he tried not to let that bother him, for now he wanted to focus only on Enid and discover more of himself.
"You see Berry, the appearance of the soul eaters did not come as a surprise to some people, to those that listened to The Preacher"
"To appearance of those gods on earth were a part of a prophesy that has been told for many years, it's sad that a majority of the earth's population did not listen...…they are still not listening"
Prophesy?
Berry was confused and concerned with her words, he didn't know what they meant but something told him that he was about to find out. Enid sensed his confusion and smiled softly, "I know you do not understand what I am saying, but I want you to know one thing, nothing was an accident, the soul eaters did not just coincidentally arrive on earth, it was all foretold".
"Haven't you ever asked yourself, where did these creatures come from? Why did they come to earth specifically? Or why did star dragons come to save us? A species that we never knew existed, suddenly becoming our heroes and then taking over the world and refining it to the way they want it"
Berry felt a wave of anxiety wash through him, she was right, prior to the appearance of soul eaters, the world had never even known about other beings, they never knew that Star Dragons existed, but oddly these creatures came out of nowhere and rescued them, now they are the ruler of the entire planet…well what's left of it.
"Doesn't that seem a bit off to you?'
It does seem off.
"
"This! All this has already been foretold by The Preacher, the true meaning of this lies within him, he knows why everything happened in this way, in fact he always knew, but they all called him crazy…guess who's the crazy one now?"
Berry felt the back of his head throb, she was saying so many things at once, but she sounded so sure of herself, "Who is this…the preacher?" he asked in a shaky voice.
"He is the light, the seer, he saw the beginning and he sees the end, he has lived through it all and he knows the things that are hidden in secret, he also knows who you are"
Berry's eyes moved to the floor, he tried to make sense of it all, he couldn't but somehow at the same time he could, he needed to meet this…The Preacher, he needed to know about his powers and why everything is the way it is, if this man held the answers then he certainly needs to get to him and he knew Enid could take him there but the issue was…can he trust her?.
After the entire ordeal with…Caelum, he wasn't sure if he could trust anyone so easily, but she looked determined and sure, her gaze held no uncertainty and he did choose to stay with her, maybe he could take the risk, get answers, maybe even discover more to himself than he will ever know and then help the Runes like he always wanted, save them from their misery.
"Look Berry…" Enid said softly, coming to crouch down in front of him, "I know you don't fully understand but trust me, you will, remember I told you, that I knew about your powers, about you and I told you that you are the key to salvation"
Berry nodded, waiting to hear her next words, Enid sighed and kept talking, "I knew because of him, The Preacher, he had already told us the prophesy about you, he told us that you are the key, he explained everything in detail but I cannot repeat his words, you must hear it from him, you must know the truth, the entire truth and that way you can fulfil destiny, you can come out victorious".
Berry had always been desperate for answers, also wanting to know, Enid said she would show him and it was time for that, all that was left was for him to trust her and take her word for it, he thought for a moment, I need to know, he had stayed with her for a few days and so far she had only diligently treated him and not done anything harmful to him, and besides, if he decided to not follow her, it would end up eating him up on the inside.
He looked up at her, matching her gaze of determination but his held a hint of fear and uncertainty, "Alright, take me to this…Preacher" he said as firm as he could.
Enid smiled in satisfaction, happy that she had managed to get through to him, she knew that he wanted answers and she would gladly give him just that.
"Good…we will wait for my brother to get back, then we will all go to see him"…she placed her hand on his thigh…"you have made the right choice Berry, seeing him is a big step in destiny and I promise, all your questions will be answered and everything will fall into place, just you wait and see".
Berry felt a strange sense of unease lingering in his chest, he looked deep into her eyes, but he saw no traces of uncertainty, even at that it did nothing to calm his nerves, maybe I am just anxious, he thought, but that did nothing to calm his nerves.
I hope I am not making a mistake.
