Chapter 13 - Trouble In The Dark

The runes came closer, trapping Berry, leaving him with nowhere to run, "Help!", he cried out in a helpless voice.

Caelum

And just then a loud bang rang through the hall, all the runes halting in their step.

They became rigid with fear as another bang erupted, some of them turned back and they immediately flinched.

"It's him!"

"Quick! Run!"

Berry watched as the Runes moved away from him one by one, making him able to breathe again.

He dropped to the floor and caught his breath, trying to regain himself from the fear he felt moments ago.

As he looked down to the floor panting, foot steps could be heard walking towards him, then stopping right in front of him.

His head snapped up and he saw the dragon he had been thinking about all day, "Caelum", he said, his voice barely a whisper.

Caelum stretched his hand and pulled the Rune up with one swift move, his grip was firm but not painful or rough, he pulled Berry beside him as he walked down the hall and away from the apartments section and the other runes.

Berry looked down at his other hand, taking note of the remnants of energy swirling around them.

Magic

It seems that was what he used to scare the runes away, he saved me, immediately he thought that he swore he saw a faint smirk on Caelum's face but it disappeared as quickly as it came, leaving Berry no time to register the action.

He was taken back to the room he had been in, they walked in, the doors closing behind them.

"You have to stay here from now on, it's safer" Caelum said in his usual monotone voice, letting go of Berry.

"All the runes are on edge, especially since they know about you and what you can do, they will do anything to get their hands on that power, especially the ones with higher poison levels".

Berry nodded, saying nothing, just fiddling with the hem of his shirt and looking solemn.

"Are you okay?"

"Hm…yes" he looked up at Caelum, "I'm just a bit shaken up, that's all".

"Do you need anything?"

"N…no"

"Are you sure?"

"Yes I am sure, I do not need anything"

Caelum looked at him intently for a moment, his eyes narrowed down on him, "I will get you food and water then".

But I said I didn't need anything.

Caelum walked to the corner of the room, pressing a button located on the table, "Yes, get me some food, whatever is available and two bottles of water".

He pressed the button again and then began taking off his jacket, he took off the royal badges and minor decorations on him, leaving him in just his shirt and pants.

Berry took a minute to admire his figure without all the drama, he was like a work of art, it was like he was set apart and sculpted specially.

The shirt hugged his chest, revealing the lines of his abs, and every muscle on his body

"I could take off more clothes if you like"

Berry's heart almost jumped out of his chest, he immediately looked away, a blush appearing on his cheek, "W…what….I…I…" he couldn't form a correct sentence so he just decided to shut up and stay there, all flustered and embarrassed from being caught staring and the words Caelum said.

The doorbell rang and Caelum went ahead to open the door, collecting the food and letting it close.

"Here" he said placing the food down on the tabletop beside the bed, "Eat".

Berry thanked him quietly, still feeling embarrassed. He sat down and took the food in his hands, opening it.

The sweet aroma filled the room and he immediately started drooling, he picked up the fork and dug in.

He munched on his happily, his legs kicking back and forth. "Thank you for the food Your Majesty".

"Caelum"

"What?" he asked in confusion, temporarily pausing.

"You can call me by my name"

.

.

.

"What?!!!"

The servant flinched at the sound of their master;s enraged voice, he swallowed nervously before speaking up again, "Sire…our sources say that there is a Rune who is able to heal the others, he can revert already feral Runes".

"How is that possible?" The master said, standing up from his large throne.

"Even they do not know Sire. But one thing is for sure, that Rune poses as a threat to your empire Sire".

The master growled, his black claws slashing the wall beside him, he groaned loudly in anger and frustration, yelling, "Those bastard Runes!! Can't they just die?!!"

He stepped back, trying to calm his breath before taking his seat once more, "this means that those Runes will live longer and worse, they might even start interacting more with society, poisoning our land, spreading like infections".

"We shall not allow that to happen Sire, we wait for your command, we shall wipe them all out and kill off the strange Rune at once" The servant said, his voice filled with reverence and determination.

"No…as much as I would like that, we cannot"

"Why not Sire?"

"A Rune as important as that would have protection and not just any protection, Caelum might be hovering around him like a fly, that fool always had a soft spot for Runes"

"Hearing they could have a chance must have him working with the Rune to save them, if we strike in full force now, he might wipe us out before we even reach the gates, we have to move cautiously"

The servant nodded, contemplating for a moment, "then we shall leave the spy to keep bringing in more information, it will help us build a plan".

"Yes but are you sure the spy's true identity is well hidden? I do not want anyone discovering him before the time is right"

"He is the best in the field, no one would ever find out about him" The servant said with full confidence.

"Good, now all we have to do is wait, no matter what, we must kill that Rune"

"All Runes must die"
