Whiskey-Jack continued to walk inside with his mother, her arm wrapped around his shoulders, making him feel a sense of comfort. Once they got inside the house, the two had to take a step back from shock.
Muskrat had emptied the bags contents everywhere around the kitchen and could be seen stuffing his face so hard he was covered in different fruit and vegetable juices. His breathing shallow, like he hadn't bothered to take a breath between putting the different food in his mouth.
"Teenage appetites" their mother chuckled, shaking her head as she left to grab cleaning supplies.
Stopping to take a few breathes, "What's with this mushroom, I've never seen one like it before" asked Muskrat, his hand reaching into the pile of food, rummaging until he held something in it.
Securing the object, he held it up, a strange looking mushroom that was so bright green in colour it looked like it was radiating with power as the glow would brighten and diminish.
The mushroom caught Whiskey-Jack's attention, also curious about the strange mushrooms origin. It had an alluring power to it, his gaze becoming lost at its fascinating features.
Pulling in his focus, he knew he had to act quick, "Knowing Muskrat he'll eat it without a second thought, but it could be poisonous" Whiskey-Jack thought, moving towards his little brother.
"I don't think you should eat that" he said, immediately taking the mushroom from Muskrat's hand before he could object.
Getting up from the floor, Muskrat lunged at Whiskey- Jack trying to take it back, the two fought over the mushroom, pushing themselves into the living room.
"Hey I had it first, give it back, Mom!" yelled Muskrat, hoping his mother would hear and tell Whiskey-Jack to give it back to him.
Eventually, due to age, Whiskey-Jack had won out in strength, flinging his little brother over his shoulder and onto a chair. He held it up, and gave it a little shake, letting Muskrat know that it was now his.
He felt a little relieved knowing his brother couldn't possibly hurt himself now that he had the mushroom. But he was too intrigued to throw it away, and decided to examine it abit longer.
Muskrat had lost, deciding to nurture his hurt pride from being defeated, by continuing to stuff his face with all the various fruits and vegetables.
"I swear, he would walk into a bear den, if he caught even a scent of food" Whiskey-Jack chuckled, as he watched Muskrat scoff down a handful of berries.
Examining the mushroom, he held it up and looked at its strange appearance as it continued to brighten and diminish, with all the weird things going on in the world, he wanted to get an answer for this one, before putting it into his pocket.
Believing their mother didn't know what the mushroom was and had picked it by accident, he knew she might not be the one to provide him with any answers.
"I better hold on to this and ask Dad when he gets back, he may know something about or atleast heard it from someone else" he thought, walking to the bedroom, the day having made him exhausted.
