Chereads / His Sovereignty / Chapter 10 - 10

Chapter 10 - 10

"Zenith, what do you want? I have a meeting with the ministers tomorrow and I need to have this rest, cuz of the pain in my chest," King Dre limply said, trying to dismiss his wife.

He couldn't look her in the eyes again, he couldn't. After what had happened to Gavin, he could only blame himself for his foolishness years back.

"Your majesty, I'm not here to argue with you, I just want to inform you that this castle is getting too small for me and that son of yours," she spoke, seething.

"What did Logan do?," King Dre grimly asked.

"He almost killed my son today, he had thought I wouldn't find out," Zenith continued speaking in deep fury.

"What? Did I not warn Logan to never lay hands on his brother Xander," the king snapped.

"If it had been Xander I wouldn't be this furious. Gavin is my son who is down mentally. Your son had gone there to beat him up, thus he would die in fear," Zenith groused.

Making the King twitch, staring at her with wide eyes.

It was as early as 6pm in the morning. King Dre had already left for the throne room.

Peggy was obligated to serve the king his meal and any other thing he desires. Peggy had woken up even before the bell rang, she was thrilled to meet her sister.

Getting to the prison area, all her hopes fell to nothing, the prison area was guarded, it was so not possible to get in.

Peggy exhaled and gave up, heading back to the kitchen to begin today's duty. She made the tea for the king and poured it into a jug , ere placing it on the beautiful planked tray. She added two cups on the tray arrangement ere she carefully lifted it, walking out of the kitchen.

She got the her destination- The courtyard bb

"Good morning," she greeted the other maid, the one in charge of the king's room's duty.

She dropped the tray on the planked coffee table, before standing beside the other servant, at the other edge of the chair that was obviously meant for the king.

Logan had his both hands spread out, while the servants walked on the buttons of the velveted black coat.

He always prepares himself for the worst whenever his dear father requests his presence at the main palace.

"My Lord," the butler walked in and bowed. "I thought you were supposed to meet the king today?."

"Yes. But I won't me wasting so much time there, I'll get done on time and head to the main palace to see father," he narrated his plans to the butler.

"Okay," he nodded.

He didn't want to argue with his prince, even if he was so not satisfied with his arrangements.

****

The king sat on his throne with an eerie aura, listening to his council members.

"My king. As it happened in your time and as it has been happening.

It's time for the crown prince to pick a bride, so he could begin the journey of producing an heir," one of the ministers politely voiced.

"I still need some time. For I am not sure of him becoming the king," the King said, making the members of the council murmur.

"But he is the crown prince," some of the members chorused.

The king shunned them. Of course he wasn't supposed to answer a chorused question.

"My king, like how much time do you need, cuz your last health result isn't what we wish to talk about, decision ought to be made quickly," the counselor was the one who spoke this time, speaking so seriously.

"A month," the king mouthed, and the murmurs in the throne room increased.

"The manner in which you men are speaking about the case of the crown prince. I feel you old men wish his majesty a quicker death," the prime minister spoke, stroking his black and white beard.

"Prime minister, you can't always be the Judas in our midst. I'm sure his majesty understands that we ain't wishing any of such towards him. We are just doing our duty, that's looking out for our kingdom.

"This law didn't start with him-neither will it end with him. If you got your post from a relative, maybe you might have a clearer view of how things are done in this kingdom," the vice councilor challenged him.

He was the only one who could do so. Everyone keeps silent when the prime minister speaks, he was kooky- thus he was feared by most people.

"Oh, I see," was all the prime minister had to say to this man.

"Your majesty," the counselor cleared his throat, trying to deal with the already menaced atmosphere.

"Your majesty, we all know you'll need some time to think this through, that's the reason we have come to a conclusion.

One week my king.... we plead. That should do," the counselor said and the King could just nod in agreement.

He didn't wish to exchange words with them today.

Few minutes later the meeting ended, and they all bowed respectfully to the king, before excusing themselves.

The king stood up from his throne and walked out with slow steps, heading to the courtyard.

The King walked into the courtyard and sat on his already prepared seat, with a grim look on his face.

Once in a month, the prisoners are released to come maintain the courtyard.

A soldier walked up to him and bowed, the King limply waved his hands and the soldier walked away, heading to release the prisoners.

***

Logan walked into the courtyard with an aloof look on his face. His steady steps on the ground made the people around stand still.

Everyone he walked passed bowed down to him, even the trees will do the same if he walks past them.

Rumor has it that he has gone to some strange place and sought for powers, that's why he was devilishly strong.

His dark aura was menacing, so they just bowed their heads till he walked past. So many people found him more frightening than his father.

"Father," came his deep voice, as he bowed.

The king just nodded and he took a seat close to him.

Peggy had her head bowed, she didn't dare to lift it up, but that didn't mean she didn't steal glances at him.

She knew it was lord Logan who walked in.

She and her sister never discussed issues about the palace, they never did care. But Logan was so popular that you'll hear of him, even if you don't wish to.

Peggy's attention drifted to the prisoners that just walked in. Her eyes scanned them until she spotted her sister.

She froze as she stared at her. It was impossible for her to observe a task this difficult without her heart reacting.

It was so much of a miracle that her episodes didn't return since these days

"No Lashonda, this can't be happening," she screamed in her head.

While her heart began throbbing with so much force.

"Logan, I remembered that I once told you that the next time you lay your hands on any of my sons, you'll work alongside the prisoners,"the king spoke, staring keenly at the busy prisoners.

"What if I say you join them today?," he asked with a kooky smirk on his face.

Logan didn't respond to his father, even after hearing his question.

"Logan, I ask a question,"the king snapped at him.

"I'll prefer doing the job all alone," Logan replied.

"Nooo, I have a better punishment for you. Coz this time you didn't hurt just anyone, but my sick son, you were trying to kill him," the king gruffly spoke.

Logan looked at his father and then he scoffed.

"I won't even kill an innocent stranger, talk more of my own brother."

"I only have just one question for you. Did you hit him?."

"Yes, but in self defense."

"Self defense?," the king asked, lifting the empty cup.

Seeing that Peggy was lost, the other maid hurried and filled the king's cup before he could notice.

"What's the problem," she whispered and Peggy twitched and turned to her.

Peggy shook her head in response.

"Don't get distracted,"'she advised and Peggy just smiled nervously.

"If I had known that Gavin's case was that serious, I wouldn't have gone there," Logan sincerely said.

"Are you trying to say Gavin attacked you," the king grimly asked.

And Logan hummed, nodding his head in response.

"But you are not the first one to go in there. You must have said or did something that triggered him to attack you," the king calmly spoke, continuously sipping from the royal golden cup.

"The others had gone when he was still fast asleep, I went there when he was conscious.

Princess Seraphina had also confirmed that he had harassed her this morning when she went there,"

Logan mouthed smoothly.

"The princess?," the king muttered. "Go get the princess," he ordered the soldier close by.

The soldier bowed his head before hurrying out.

The king was about to say something else, but he paused when he heard noises from the prison.

Just now he realized that he hadn't been watching them.

Logan brows furrowed as the maid behind them hurried towards the scene.
