Chapter 1 - fateful encounter

Jasmine sighed while walking out of the hospital, tears welling up in her eyes. This wasn't the result she'd hoped for; she knew her heart condition was beginning to get out of hand, but she didn't expect that she'd be gone soon. Her mobile phone rang; it was probably her parents calling, so she didn't pick up. She just needed a place to cry.

She walked into the parking lot and got into her car, crying her heart out. "Adrian, please, give me a chance," she heard a voice, followed by footsteps outside. It was probably someone coming to pick up their car. A tall figure passed by her car, followed by another man and a slim woman who looked familiar, chasing after the tall figure.

This scene looked familiar to Jasmine. All her life, she'd been unable to be in a relationship because of her heart condition; she always knew she wouldn't live long. They'd chase after her relentlessly, only to be rejected in the end. She was always bullied and considered invisible throughout high school.

During her school prom, she finally accepted going with Edward Elington after much persuasion from her best friend, Callie. Edward was the coolest, richest, and most handsome boy in school, and he fell deeply in love with Jasmine Walker. She remembered Edward being abused, with many wondering why and how he fell for her—the invisible freak.

Well, all was going well; she'd even bought a dress, but she suddenly fell sick and couldn't attend prom, leaving Edward embarrassed. She never saw him again after that. She was only able to love from afar; she'd never gotten so close or even experienced physical romance; nature didn't permit her to.

"But... I love you." This sentence brought her back to life as she watched the scene unfolding before her. Wait a minute; the woman's voice sounded familiar. At a closer glance, Jasmine Walker finally realized she was Anne Ye, a famous actress known for her beautiful face and body. She was truly a beauty.

"I don't love you, Anne Ye; please stop clinging," said the tall figure, Adrian, his eyes scanning the parking lot.

Jasmine Walker lowered her head so she wouldn't be discovered.

"Come out of the car," he said, his voice sending shivers down Jasmine's spine; she'd been discovered.

Slowly, she got out of the car and straightened her dress.

"Ahem," she cleared her throat in embarrassment. "Eavesdropping on other people's conversations isn't cool."

He shot her a glance, making her look down at her shoes in guilt.

"Let's go," he said to the other man, who seemed to be his driver. "Yes, boss," he bowed.

Adrian turned around, walking towards his Rolls Royce.

"Wait!" Jasmine shouted, much to her own surprise.

"Did... did you love her?" she asked out of curiosity.

"No, I don't do love, Miss..."

"Jasmine...."

"My name's Jasmine Walker," she added.

He turned around again, ready to walk away.

"What if... what if I make you fall?" she said out loud, making him stop in his tracks for a few seconds before walking away.

Jasmine wanted to move, but it felt like her feet were glued to the ground. She slapped herself. "What was I even thinking!?" she asked herself; that was her first time feeling... rejected. She... she'd actually thought she could try new things before leaving the world behind.

The black Rolls Royce parked beside her, and a hand with long, slender fingers handed her a card.

"8:00 pm, presidential suite. Anyone disturbs you? Show them this card," he said.

Jasmine was very happy as her trembling fingers took the card from his, and she watched the car zoom out of the lot.

With joy in her heart, Jasmine Walker drove to the Walker family mansion. She could hear her grandma's laughter from the door.

"Jasmine, or whatever you call her, she's going to be dead soon, and then we can all have peace; that girl is bad luck," she said.

Hearing the sound of keys falling to the ground, all heads turned to look at her.

"I have six months left, Grandma. You'll finally get to see me buried," she said, throwing the doctor's report onto the table.

"Maybe in death, I'll find some peace and quiet," she smiled wryly at her misfortune.

"Honey," Pablo and Myra tried calling their daughter back, but she didn't turn around; she just walked up the stairs.

"Rose, take grandma to her room," Pablo seemed angry at his mother.

Rose bowed slightly before taking grandma away.

"Oh, Rose, that witch will die soon, and we'll be back to normal," Grandma kept laughing.

In the room, Jasmine locked herself in. She sat at the edge of her bed, her eyes fixed on the card Adrian had given her. A determined smile spread across her face. "Yes, Grandma was right," she whispered to herself. "I will die soon, but not before I try everything I haven't tried before."

With newfound resolve, Jasmine's gaze lingered on the card, the presidential suite's address and time etched in her mind: 8:00 pm. Tonight.

She stood up, a sense of purpose washing over her. Six months wasn't much time, but it was enough. Enough to experience life, to take risks, and to make memories.

Jasmine's thoughts drifted back to Adrian, his piercing eyes, and his enigmatic smile.Just what she was looking for, someone she could love without worrying if he'll love her back .

She was going to die anyway and things would only get complicated if the second party loved her back.

A shiver ran down her spine as she imagined the possibilities. Tonight, she would take the first step.
