The cabin door swung shut behind them with a soft creak, the lock clicking into place. Taryn hadn't even realized she was the one who locked it until her hand lingered on the latch. She could feel Lucien behind her, the air between them thick with unspoken words and unacknowledged emotions.
"Why do you always do this?" she hissed, spinning to face him. Her words were sharp, but her voice shook. "Push me. Push us."
Lucien stepped closer, his voice low and biting. "Because it's the only way you ever move, Warrior. You'd rather dig your heels in and fight the world than admit you need anyone."
Taryn's breath hitched, her body tensing as she took a step back. But her back hit the wall, and he was still closing the space between them, his presence overwhelming.
"Maybe I don't," she said, her voice faltering even as she glared up at him. "Not you. Not anyone."
Lucien's eyes darkened, his voice dropping to a near-whisper. "Liar."
