The dim lantern cast flickering shadows across the cabin's wooden walls, making the space feel even smaller. Taryn perched atop the small desk, her arms crossed and her gaze fixed on the swaying lantern. The storm outside had passed, leaving the ship eerily quiet except for the groan of wood and the faint slosh of waves against the hull.
Kah'el lounged on the top bunk, one leg dangling over the side as he flicked a coin between his fingers. The metallic clink of it spinning through the air was the only sound he contributed to the uneasy silence. His coat hung limply from the corner of the bunk, still damp from the rain, and his dark hair was plastered to his forehead in untamed waves.
"Could you stop that?" Taryn asked sharply, nodding toward the coin.
Kah'el raised an eyebrow, his smirk as irreverent as ever. "What? The coin, or existing in your general vicinity?"
