I sat on my bed, dressed in my training outfit, but my mind couldn't settle. Each second dragged on as I waited for Kairan. The memory of last night replayed over and over, making my chest tighten.
What if someone came into my room again?
My eyes darted nervously around the space.
Kairan said the shield is still up.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, he appeared before me, materializing like a ghost in the air. I jumped to my feet.
"Kairan," I blurted out, my voice betraying my unease. "You're late today."
Without so much as a glance in my direction, he tugged off his gloves and dropped them onto the table. "I believe you're addressing me incorrectly, Lady Meredia."
Confusion twisted inside me. "What? I-"
"I am your prince," he said, turning those cold, distant eyes on me. There was no warmth in them, no trace of the man I thought I knew- just icy indifference.
