A Kairan turned his back, preparing to return to his palace, a sudden realization hit me.

I didn't want Kirill to see it and question why I hadn't given it to Kairan as I'd promised. I had to act fast.
"Hey, stop!" I called out, rushing to catch up with him.
Kairan paused and turned, "Why?"
I took a deep breath, trying to sound as casual as possible. "I was going to give you this handkerchief as a gift, you know, to wish you well and all that. It's a bit used, but I thought you might like it."
Kairan's eyes widened slightly as he inspected the handkerchief, then he raised an eyebrow. "I've seen you use this handkerchief quite a bit. Are you sure you want to give me something that's already been used? This is... unconventional, to say the least."
Oh no, he caught me!
I felt my cheeks flame with embarrassment. Offering something used, especially in royal circles, was practically an insult.
