Power is a lot like real estate is all about location location location, the closer you are to the source the higher your property value .
For Daniel the school although it seemed like he didn't need it , he realized that it was the most optimal option to realize his goals .
It was Monday morning at about 10 AM when an enlisted soldier knocked on Daniels building , after checking that everything was in order he boarded the army jeep with nothing but §10k some new underwear and some toiletries. The remaining §40k was kept in a sealed bag and kept somewhere safe for emergency purposes.
The drive was relatively quiet, Daniel spent the entire time checking the scenes.
In about 30 minutes they arrived at the school gate, on top the arc above the gate was the schools name "COMMAND SECONDARY SCHOOL".
They passed the checkpoint at the gate relatively fast then went straight to the administrative building. Because Daniel was a special case as it was the army that was handling his school tuition he got through registration with ease .
After that he was handed the school rule book, two sets of uniform, a hostel wear , a blanket and a pillow. He was then led to the hostel which was approximately a 20 minute walk from the school. He was led to an empty single room which had a bed , a night stand, a cupboard and a reading table.
The room also had a bathroom, this was one of the privileges senior students had in the school. Junior students (JS1-3) had to share rooms with at least one person or at most two people depending on the situation.(Senior students are SS1-3).
After changing out of his casual clothes into the school uniform which was a light green long sleeve shirt with dark green trousers to be worn with a black belt and shoes. There was also a neck tie to be worn,on the tie was a bar , the red bar was for seniors and the white bar was for for juniors . The number of bars showed which class you were in . The same was with girls but they wore skirts instead.
After dressing up, Daniel took his transcripts to the academic officer to be assigned to a class . The academic officer who was a lieutenant in the army after checking the transcript assigned him to the arts class which worked well for Daniel.
The class system in the school was as follows(A-B) were pure science classes,(C)was an art class which also offered some science courses,(D-E) were pure arts classes and finally (F) was a technical development class. All classes had between 30- 45 people in each.
Daniel was assigned to the C class and a first year senior (SS1) he was to do seven art courses and three science (which mathematics was compulsory).
After getting his class schedule he was free to return to the hostel. The boys and girls hostels were on opposite ends of the school With the school in the center . For a school that had about 2500 students plus staff it was really big.
The hostel was compromised of five six floored buildings. Those five buildings were called the five houses and they wore different hostel uniforms they were:tiger house (yellow and black) ,palm(green and black), Octopus (red and black) , dragon (purple and black) and the flying horse (blue and black). These houses were a way for the school to foster competition between students, sometimes they had sport competitions.
Daniels room looked like it had not been habited for a while, so he got to cleaning and scrubbing to remove dirt dust and cobwebs from the place.
By the time he was done cleaning the place now looked like a place where a human being could stay. Daniel now got in the shower to wash out the sweat and grime that had accumulated on his body. After that he lay on the bed with the school handbook to read.
He started with school hierarchy, at the top of the school was the commandant a Colonel he was what would be known in a civilian school as the principal.
Second was the administrative officer (AO or XO)who was a major. He was the second in command who was in charge of relaying the commandants order, he was the buffer between the staff and students and the commandant.
Then there were the VPs ACAD and ADMIN both were captains who handled the academic and administrative aspects of the school. Also had many civilian and military working under them.
There were also form teachers who were all lieutenants . They were in charge of a single class each, they were responsible for the compilation of results, delivering punishment, recommendation of students for awards and competitions and also to provide counseling for students.
There were also perfects in charge of the students;
The top student was the senior prefect and assistant ,they were like the equivalent of a student council president but with much power,he was the one who enforced the order from up top.
They were also the sanitary perfect and assistant (in charge of maintaining the school sanitary standards), the dining prefect and assistant (in charge of the maintaining an orderly dining area and making sure that the food was prepared on time).
Then there are the house captains and assistants ,there are five house captains and assistants in both the boys and girls hostels, ten each which meant that they were about twenty.
One of the reasons for this was that everything depends on the house captains, from the beginning of the term all houses are being evaluated with things like the most punctual house ,the neatest house, etc.
Although all prefects were selected from SS3 students, the house captains were the only ones that are elected by the student body the rest are interviewed and then appointed by the school administrative council .
The appointment process was very strict, one must have an above average school result card and must have not been suspended since admissions then after that and other investigations the prefects would then be appointed.
Prefects were the only ones required to wear a black tie as a symbol of their position.
Another thing was the timetable for the students; wake up time was 5am
Breakfast was 6:30-7:20
Morning assembly was 7:30-8:00
Classes were 8:10-4:00pm on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday with a two hour official break and8:10-2:00pm with an hour break on Friday.
Wednesday was all about training and sports from 9:00-3:00pm .
Lunch was fixed in-between the breaks given.
Dinner was by 6:00pm- 7:00pm
Compulsory night prep was from 7:00-9:00pm
Lights out were by 10pm .
Saturday and Sunday was for cleaning but mostly free except for these with religious obligations.
Students were required to stay in class and follow the time table without straying from it and all uniforms must be worn appropriately
to avoid punishment.
Punishment ranged from but not limited to being flogged to doing labour intensive workout routine .
Finally the cannon law of all students was once you are in the school you are not allowed to t leave for any reason until the term was over.
If someone leaves the school without permission his punishment could range from the above punishment to suspension or expulsion.
Also the school had the right to detail students in a kind of solitary cell for some special kinds of offenses.
After reading the school handbook Daniel took a deep breath and said to himself 'this is going to be interesting '
