I found myself in a world where magic flowed like an invisible but tangible river. Instead of allowing me to rest, my thoughts became even more immersed in curiosity to explore every corner.
As I awoke, I noticed the first light of day filtering through the window.
"It's daytime," I whispered, feeling the magical energy pulsing around me, or so I wanted to believe.
With my heart racing, I quickly made my way to the master bedroom, calling out to my mother urgently. "Mom...!" my voice echoed throughout the house. I needed answers to all my possible doubts right then and there.
At first, I thought this place was a forgotten region of Europe, not to say poor, but looking at it this way, it all makes sense; I thought with a tone of joy. "I'm here in the kitchen, son," my mother replied.
Hearing her voice, I hurried over there. As I entered, hurriedly, I saw how my mom greeted me with a welcoming smile as she saw me enter.
"Mom, I have a question."
"Tell me, my little Kaini, what question do you have?" her harmony that made my racing heart calm down.
"Can you use magic?", I asked expectantly.
As he heard me, his gaze shifted to mine, dropping what he was doing. "Yes, son. How did you know if I never mentioned it to you?" he replied with a pause. His gaze, lost in a mysterious or questioning memory, left me in shock.
Although I am talented, it is clear that I don't know everything; my parents had never told me anything about magic.
Now, what should I say, I thought, I said the first thing that came to my mind.
"Well... I heard it from you, Mom. Besides, you used it with me the day before, don't you remember?" I stammered, trying to make sense of what I was saying.
"Ahh... yes, you're right," she said, bringing a hand to her head and giving herself a little pat. "Your mom is a bit forgetful, sorry," she replied with a smile. "I guess you have questions—what do you want to know?"
"I want to know everything," I said carefully, as my eyes sparkled with curiosity.
My mother's reaction to hearing my words was one of surprise and discomfort. "I don't think I can answer everything, but I'll tell you what I know. Magic is like energy in the body; some people are more skilled than others. There are few who can be considered really good.
Hearing that last word, a feeling of discouragement began to wash over me. The light of excitement and curiosity that enveloped me a moment ago was slowly fading away. Would I not be able to use magic or would I not be good at it? These doubts were pounding my mind. Suddenly, as if my mom could read my thoughts, she quickly added.
"You shouldn't be discouraged by that; in the end, it depends on everyone and what appeals to them. For example, your father never showed much interest in magic or swordsmanship, even though the Firebrand family has a tradition in that art. He was always more interested in political developments, and that is what he has focused on these days. Now, he has become the representative of his family, also taking care of production in this town, as his father's envoy," he explained calmly, using his finger to emphasize his words.
Hearing all that, the flame of emotion came back to me and I could understand what he wanted to tell me. I think I overthought and overreacted.
"So, Mom, are you good at magic?", I asked expectantly.
"You could say yes, but only the basics. I never got to study magic like I would have liked to, so I don't know much about it," she answered me with a firm, sincere face. "You're really very curious. You'll be three soon, but you act like you're twelve, with so many exact questions. You may be a child prodigy, one of those you see every thousand years. Or maybe not," she said with maternal pride and a subdued laugh at the end.
"It just fascinates me, I find it so intriguing, Mom," I replied with a bit of discomfort.
"That's what I admire about you, son. Really, it would be too soon to tell you this, but seeing your early attention to magic, don't you wish I could help you?"
"Yes, Mom, I want to learn - help me!"
"Okay, I'll talk to your dad to see what I can do. Imagine if you are a genius at this; you could become one of the greatest, someone important in our village, in the city, or in the kingdom itself. Yes, you will be very great! And I will do everything I can to make it happen," he declared with determination.
I will soon be 3 years old; according to what I have heard, they will throw me a party. In this world, the rules and customs are different; one of them is that here birthdays are celebrated every 3 years. A unique tradition that adds a special touch to the festivities, I thought as my mom kept talking to me.
