Chapter 11 - I Didn't Have An Escape Plan B

"Okay," said Rose, still smiling. "Darling, no, Titus, I want you to know that we fairies were very happy to be with you, today. This is something we've always wanted, and we had so much fun."

Hearing that made me choke up. I pulled Rose into a hug and the other fairies joined.

"I'll come back soon."

"Please take a couple of fairies with you," said Rose, "you choose."

"Okay, I choose Lily and Iris." I said, after some consideration. I chose them because they seem to like me a little more than the other fairies.

After the long hug, I saw that Emily and Enna were holding back tears, and that made me smile.

After some brief preparations, we departed. Behind Lily and Iris, translucent butterfly wings appeared. They took my wrists and flew me down to the ground. Emily and Enna climbed down the rope ladder. The fairies waved and said their farewells the whole time we were leaving.

Our journey to the Elf village began. Emily and Enna were leading the way, and I was walking behind them. Lily and Iris were flying above us.

"Hey Titus, are you a fairy?" asked Enna as we walked.

"Um. . . I don't think so." My existence remains a mystery. Everyone, including me, has been surprisingly chill about it.

"That reminds me, why did you ask if the fairies have impenetrable skin, Enna?" asked Emily.

"Because Titus has impenetrable skin."

"Whaat!?"

"When we were trying to wake him, yesterday, I tried to pierce him with a knife and I could not, even with all my strength."

Wow, rude, but it's nice to know I have impenetrable skin. It's another mystery, but it is very cool. Reincarnation perks, I guess.

"That's so cool!" said Lily, still flying overhead alongside Iris. "Do you have any other powers?"

"I don't know. I didn't even know I had that one."

"Can you do magic?"

"No, is it something I can learn?"

"Yeah, it's easy."

"It's only easy for fairies." interjected Emily.

"How do you do magic?" I asked. I'm getting excited. I want to learn magic so badly, I hope I am a fairy. I may not grow any taller, but being able to fly and do magic easily would be so worth it. Quest: Learn Magic. Accepted.

"Um. . . Well. . . You just, like, feel it and then do it." Said Lily, clearly struggling for words.

'Sounds like a vibes-based magic system' I thought, letting out a little chuckle. In my past life, I was the type of guy to ponder metaphysics, and of course I played games and read books. In concept, magic is a violation of natural law. Of course, the natural law of this reality may be different to allow such things, but then magic would be explainable, scientifically. Then, it wouldn't really be magic. So, either natural law isn't really law, or magic really isn't magic. Or maybe magic is divine or something, and therefore, supersedes natural law.

Anyway, magic based on ambiguous vibes isn't all that surprising to me. In a way, it makes more sense than the alternatives.

"What does magic feel like?"

"Uhh. . . Hmm. . ." started Lily, clearly thinking.

"It doesn't feel like anything else." said Iris "It's hard to describe."

Interesting. It seems that magic is dependent on this indescribable feeling. If the feeling is like nothing else, it should be obvious if I feel it.

"Is there some way to cultivate this feeling?" I asked.

"I don't know," said Iris "but I'll tell you if I think of anything that might help."

"Thanks, both of you." I said. Lily and Iris smiled a little brighter.
