Chapter 5 - Burning the Body

Quinn nodded, despite grim thoughts warring in his mind. His mind is warning him of the dangers of starting to drink human blood. Once he starts, he knows it'll be difficult to stop.

Sebastian could see the internal conflict—his desire.

Sebastian drops the sack on the ground, which clangs with a thud. Looking into the deep woods, where darkness and branches loom ahead.

Sebastian looks back at Quinn with his lips tugging into a brief smile. "You'll be carrying the sack."

Quinn frowns. "Why? You're the one who killed her."

Sebastian chuckles, although the glint within his eyes is visible. "You said you want to help, so quit bitching about it."

Quinn knew that was Sebastian's petty way of getting back at him for forcing him to take him along. He lifts the sack on his shoulder, even with the heavy weight.

Sebastian looks at him with a teasing smirk. "Let's go."

The only reason Quinn isn't complaining or refusing is because he knows if he doesn't comply with his demands, Sebastian will find other ways to get back at him for his petty revenge.

Both of them use their supernatural speed; everything becomes a blur—the sounds of the rustling trees, the lights, and everything in the distance fades away.

Ahead, there was a large pit filled with dirt and soil that was dug up by him. He looks at Quinn and tells him. "Throw the body in the ground as you get the shovel."

Quinn nodded somberly, yet the excitement in his eyes couldn't be dimished. He removes the sack from his shoulder, causing him to grunt in response.

He threw the sack into the large hole, whereas Sebastian took the lighter from his pocket, which came from nowhere. Kneeling on the ground, he lit the sack with the lighter, then red sparks of embers came to life. Slowly, the red sparks became brilliant flames of bright orange and red, like the fall of leaves.

Sebastian stood up from his spot, standing next to his brother, who was watching the smoldering flames burning the sack.

The sounds of crackling are audible; even birds and other animals could hear the sound.

The two brothers could smell the burning flesh. The scent is nauseating and sweet, putrid and steaky, or something like leather being tanned over a flame.

The flame became smaller, like a spark of embers. Sebastian tells Quinn, but the order was undeniable. "Go put the dirt in."

Quinn looks at him and pouts, hoping to avoid the task. He tries using his best tricks that usually work on their parents.

Batting his eyelashes as he wipes his imaginary sweat on his cheeks, "Dear brother, I'm so tired; I have been doing this and that. Why don't you shovel dirt in for me?"

Sebastian was unmoved, although he smiles mirthful, but the words were opposite. "Dearest brother, I'm not going to ask again. Go start shoveling; you're the one who wanted to help."

Quinn wanted to punch the smug look on his face and sighed out loud dramatically. Sebastian watches amusely.

This is must how Father feels. There's no way I'm having kids. Good thing vampires can't procreate.

Sebastian clicks his tongue. Quinn was taking too long. If he's not going to help, he might as well help him out.

Sebastian thrust a leg at Quinn's butt, startling him so much that he squeaked like a howling dog. He fell face-flat into the hole, where dirt and ashes got into his face.

Sebastian could see his furious eyes spewing silent curses. Sadly, he couldn't hold his tongue any longer. "You fucker!!! I can't believe you kicked me!!"

Sebastian clicks his tongue; the sound of a shrill bird was aggravating enough. Looking at his brother, he smiles with twitching eyes. "Brother, if you hadn't taken so long, I wouldn't have done that. Now, can you please start shoveling, or we'll be stuck here all night long, listening to you bitching."

Quinn grits his teeth, hissing like a furious cat, before he grabs the shovel and starts throwing dirt into the hole silently.

Finally, he is silent and working!

With a relieved sigh, he walks toward one of the large trees and uses every ounce of strength to jump on the tree. He sat down silently, watching his brother work.

Well, he's not that bad. I might take him to a party and teach him self-control.

Furrowing his brow, uncertainty lingers on his face.

I need to talk to Father. Quinn have been drinking from blood bags for a long time, only supressing his vampire side, not allowing him to accept the darkest parts of himself. That's why he needs to start drinking human blood. He's a vampire, but deep down, he'll need to learn to accept that.

Looking into the silent night, where even the radiant stars don't flicker. Exhaustion hits him like a truck; he thought he could close his eyes for just awhile. Just to conserve his energy, but he fell into slumber; the sounds of the shovel throwing dirt, light breathing, the whisper of the wind, and the chirping birds in the woods only made him drowsy.

——

He was startled by a painful pinch; his ears were tugged by a hand. The fogginess fades away, and his brother enters his vision.

Quinn grins maliciously, "Hey, sleepy head. Wakey-wakey. I'm finished. It's time to leave."

Sebastian knocks his hand away as he rubs his sore ear. He knew it was Quinn's little payback, but he doesn't have the energy to deal with it.

His eyes etched upon the sunlight that was beginning to trickle into the sky. There were white, puffy clouds with barely audible chirping.

He saw his brother was up to something. His eyes were filled with mirth, only putting him on guard. He wouldn't find it surprising if he had something on his face.

Narrowing his eyes suspiciously, he asked, "What did you do?"

Quinn whines and crosses his arms beyond outrage. "How do you mean?! I have done nothing but bury the hole the entire night. You could at least say thank you, asshole!"

Sebastian sighed; he would give his brother the benefit of the doubt just this one time. He was too tired to argue. He gets up from lying down on the tree and jumps down on the ground, feeling his body vibrate from the impact, whereas his brother followed him.

Sebastian looks at Quinn, who was clicking his tongue in annoyance. He laughs before calming down. "A—Alright, I'm sorry. T—Thank you."

Quinn ignored him, pretending not to hear him. He walks away with the shovel, heading toward the house.

Sebastian knew he was in the wrong; he follows behind his moping little brother. "Hey, I said I was sorry."

Quinn replied. "Not enough."

Sebastian walks forward, gripping his shoulder. "How can I make it up to you?"

His movement stopped, and his neck turned to look at Sebastian. "Are you sure you want to make it up to me?"

Sebastian had a feeling he was walking into a trap, but he didn't want bad blood between them, so he ignored his gut feeling. "Yes, I just say so."
