Chapter 28 - Faith Miller

"How is he?" Qwanisha inquired in concern.

She watched Kaiju being surrounded by a golden barrier produced by a woman slightly above his age. She entered the Hellish Trial a year ago and was quickly found by Max. If it was not for Max, she would have long been perished by the Thrall.

She closed her eyes and clasped her hands together while kneeling. Her countenance appeared solemn, with a stubborn expression mixed within, highlighting her milky-white pretty face. Coupled with her impeccable appearance, wearing a black and white robe like a nun, where she brought it from the store after she became an Awakener, she appeared an immaculate nun.

She was Faith Miller from the west.

The only place in the world inhabited by humans where it lacked an Ascendant was the west. Obviously, it was divided by the strongest High Ranker with the other three on the same rank. Since it lacked an Ascendant, what brought the citizens together was "faith" established by the strongest High Ranker, who obtained the blood of the Angels. Obviously, despite the other High Ranker obtaining the blood of other races, noting that it didn't oppose the Angels, it didn't stop the "faith" from spreading in the west, even creating a first-world country, with other High Ranker's country being second-world at most.

Nevertheless, the other High Ranker, on the surface, didn't oppose the strongest High Ranker's immense influence, who even created the church, seemingly worshipping what the Angel's race worshipped, too. Faith Miller came from the country and was even among the future saints. Although her future was certain, ascending through the ranks of the church, she had chosen the Hellish Trial for some reason.

Only a year after entering the Hellish Trial she became awakened. Hellish Trial has an enormous difference compared to other trials–they could only be awakened after completing the trial. However, in the Hellish Trial, due to the difficulty assumingly, the participant can become awakened.

Even so, it only made a minimal difference.

"You should not disturb her, Qwanisha." Max softly whispered.

Qwanisha ignored him, seemingly not hearing what he said. Although she would have quickly scolded him for calling her name instead of their romantic couple nickname, it was not the time for that. Of course, she heard him about not disturbing Faith, so she held her worries deep within her heart.

However, her mind was not silent, staring at Faith instead. Faith and the other two entered the trial at the same time a year ago. Indeed, she didn't see other humans partaking in the trial for many years, but she was referring at the time prior to Faith and the other two's appearance. She almost lost hope, even thinking of perishing together with Max. Max and her were the only survivors after many attempts of raiding the burg. Perhaps, the other races even thought of killing them so the trial's condition could alter.

However, Max and Qwanisha were aware it would only increase the difficulties of the Trial, and the other races must be aware of it, too. Hence, the other races hastened them with the appearance of the other three, giving them only a year before raiding the burg. Thankfully, the three have shown their potential.

They believed Kaiju should have possessed it, too. In fact, three months was not really enough, but with six months, they believed it should be enough for Kaiju to be awakened. Hence, they were anxious, hoping Kaiju would not have received a long lasting psychological trauma.

After a long half an hour waiting, almost depleting Faith's mana completely, after healing Kaiju for the fifth time, Faith finally opened her eyes and slowly unclasped her hands together.

She tilted her head upward, and said, "God has shown His kindness to him. He survived. He should be fine, just receiving some trauma that I couldn't really identify. Don't worry, as long as he converts himself and follows the way of our Creator, he will quickly recover."

Qwanisha heaved a sigh of relief and quickly kneeled before Kaiju. When Faith finished her words, she continued talking to Max, while the latter smiled bitterly. Ever since Faith appeared, she had been trying to convince them, even the other three, to convert and become a devout believer of the God the Angel race worshiped. Of course, they rejected her multiple times but she was relentless and stubborn.

Max could only admire her character for that.

He shook his head in response and then focused on Qwanisha and Kaiju. His eyes eventually landed on the Snow and Little Gorilla, sleeping in between Kaiju and Faith, as they were covered by the golden barrier earlier, and finally thought how to divert the topic.

"How are the beasts on the other hand?"

Faith glanced at them with her gentle golden eyes.

"They are okay. Although they received some mental attack, it wasn't immense compared to their master. They should be doing well. I can convert them, too."

Max didn't know whether to laugh and cry because of her statement. Nevertheless, he was filled with relief, knowing Kaiju's beasts were fine, too. If either of them was not okay, it would deal a massive blow to both of them. Thus, they should treat Kaiju's beast like it was Kaiju, too.

Max was silent for a while and then glanced at Qwanisha, seeing her caressing the boy's hair while letting his head rest on her lap, feeling a bit envious. Still, he asked her what came to her mind, "What are your plans with him, Qwanisha?"

Although Max understood they would be training Kaiju, but for the process… he did not have a slight idea at all. After all, they were training a Summoner, and they, at least for him, did not know about them at all.

However, Qwanisha seemed to have an idea long ago and quickly replied, "What else? We'll increase his strength and his pets. And stop calling me by my name." Qwanisha shot a glare at Max.

Max, seeing Qwanisha was back to normal, could only giggle. He nodded. "Alright, dear. We'll teach him what we can. But… Do you think Griffin wants to teach someone?"

Qwanisha snorted.

"That selfish, conceited, self-centered brat. He can't reject me." Qwanisha suddenly forced an evil smirk. "If Kaiju is actually better than him, it might be a good character improvement. He has been lacking lately. If it was not for Lucy's talent, targeting his ego, he would have spent his time sleeping rather than grinding."

Max nodded.

"Alright, but since those two aren't back yet, we'll decide who is Kaiju's first teacher."

"Let him decide," Qwanisha quickly replied while looking at Kaiju.

"If he wants to learn from me, he should convert to our religion first!" Faith suddenly interjected.

"He won't learn anything from you!" Qwanisha quickly retorted.
