"Rosé Holy Court has been destroyed." The black-haired man sitting in the chair had a gloomy expression.
According to the intelligence returned by the people sent to gather information, there was little chance of survival for anyone in the entire Rosé Holy Court. Moreover, the scouts he sent out had also gone silent, and no one had managed to uncover exactly what had happened there.
Dorian stood silently across from him. The long-haired man wearing a red luxurious robe had eagle-like sharp eyes that exuded an imposing aura even without anger. The continuous losses had made this formidable middle-aged man emanate a chilling low pressure.
Bishop Timothy of the Sis Holy Court. One of the most powerful Bishops in the Temple of Light, he became the youngest Cardinal in the history of the Holy See at just over twenty, sweeping away surrounding Demons with an iron fist after taking office in Sis City and expanding the influence of the Sis Holy Court several-fold.
Under his protection, Sis City thrived and prospered for over a decade, becoming the most bustling trade city on the entire continent, rivaling the capital, Holy Solan City.
This man was in a very bad mood; the situation in Rosé City had exceeded everyone's expectations. Since the appearance of Inner Demons, although fallen Demons had been rampant, they had always acted based on instinct and had never organized a large-scale invasion of a city. Something troubling was happening quietly; perhaps the Demons had evolved, or the higher Demons in the Desperate Forest had found a way to breach the seals, or possibly...
A chilling glint flashed in his eyes. Rosé City housed one of the key points maintaining the seal of the Desperate Forest; three remained, located in Sis, Holy Solan, and the Elven Kingdom of Fielayna in the Silver Frost Forest.
The Elven Kingdom naturally had the Elven Guardians, Holy Solan was the site of the Pope, concentrating the most powerful Bishops and Priests in the Holy See, while Sis and Rosé were jointly defended by Priests and executing Witches. Nearly half of the Priests and Witches cultivated by the Sis Holy Court each year went to the Rosé Holy Court, making the military strength of the two cities quite similar.
Now, the Rosé Holy Court had been almost entirely wiped out in an instant, so unexpectedly that they hadn't even had time to send out a distress signal. Other Holy See nearby rushed to aid only when they saw civilians fleeing from the city.
Timothy had no idea how the enemy had managed this, but he could be sure of one thing: regardless of who they were or what they intended, their next target would certainly be Sis.
"We can no longer afford to delay," he said, looking at Dorian, who stood across from him. The enemy could strike at any moment, yet they hadn't even caught a glimpse of them. "I've decided to send our elite forces to Rosé City directly, to eliminate the Demons within and uncover the truth. If we can still save the key point in Rosé City, we will do everything to protect it. If we can't, we must at least bring back the Soul Pillar that provides power to the key point. Since you now have a new Demon Attendant, I'm assigning this mission to you. Is that alright?"
Dorian knew that Timothy was not seeking his opinion; he never considered his subordinates' views when giving orders. Nonetheless, he attempted to speak up: "Bishop, my Demon Attendant's training is not yet complete. She is temporarily unqualified for this level of task. I can go alone this time."
"Dorian—" The red-robed Bishop's gaze sharpened as he stood up and walked in front of Dorian. Although his stature was not as tall as Dorian's, he exuded an air of superiority that was oppressive. "If you believe your Demon Attendant will only hold you back, you can replace her."
Dorian felt a slight chill; the Bishop's discontent was apparent.
"A watchdog that won't bite has no reason to exist. The Holy See doesn't keep these Witches for your comfort," Timothy's voice was as cold as the polar regions. "Do you truly think I've been blind to your actions during this time? I am very disappointed in you, Dorian."
"Teacher…" The usually stoic white-clad Priest felt his resolve weaken in front of Timothy. This red-robed Bishop had rescued him from a pile of dead bodies attacked by Demons years ago, treating him as a favored disciple. Although strict, he was like a father to him.
"I heard that you were injured a few days ago. A Demon of that level could hurt you? Have you been so comfortable for so long that your body has grown dull? Have I made things too easy for you in recent years?" The Bishop's voice carried a hint of anger, his keen gaze fixed on him, assessing that this disciple had not been behaving appropriately of late. "That Eugenia was originally meant for you, but you disappeared without a trace, leaving it for that worthless Ward. Just look at what you have contracted now."
Dorian had no intention of arguing. He straightened his posture and spoke earnestly: "I will complete this mission."
"You and your worthless Demon Attendant?" Timothy scoffed. "I would not entrust the fate of Sis to someone ineffective. I will have Alicia accompany you. I hope you and your little pet do not embarrass yourselves too much."
With a cold snort, he turned and walked out the door, leaving Dorian standing behind him.
