Chapter 13: For the Glory of the Uchiha Clan
"For the glory of the Uchiha clan!"
The voice of Uchiha Yosuke echoed resolutely within the Naka Shrine. Witnessing this, Uchiha Fugaku felt both awkward and relieved. Although this mission was for the sake of the clan, Uchiha pride made it hard for him to willingly accept it.
"Fugaku, look at Yosuke. The clan's future will rely on you both," the clan leader said, casting a rare look of disapproval at his usually favored son.
Uchiha Fugaku braced himself and replied solemnly, "Yosuke's sacrifice for the clan won't be forgotten."
Standing tall in a pure white kimono, black pants, and a slightly open chest revealing his well-toned muscles, Yosuke wore deep black arm guards that extended down to his hands and a belt with a black sheath for his ninja sword on his back. His sharp features and dignified appearance gave him a striking resemblance to Sasuke in his prime. This entire outfit was newly prepared by Uchiha Mikoto, and even she now felt a bit like she had created her own competition.
Seeing Yosuke's unwavering determination, along with his appearance that had clearly charmed his granddaughter, Elder Setsuna nodded approvingly. "Yosuke, now is the best time for the clan. The Third Hokage's policies over the past two decades have left many families discontented. Why else would the Senju clan seek to protect the next Nine-Tails Jinchuriki within their own ranks?"
Elder Setsuna gave a rare, sarcastic chuckle. "White Fang's reputation has begun to overshadow the Third's. Some of this is due to White Fang's strength, but much of it is fueled by the hidden influence of discontented families, including the Senju, who also disapprove of the Third Hokage's approach."
Listening to Elder Setsuna's analysis, Yosuke pondered the state of Konoha's leadership and the tension between powerful clans and the Hokage. Although the truth was unclear, a leader like the Hokage would naturally try to prevent any clan from becoming overly powerful, even a clan as prominent as the Senju.
During the Second Shinobi War, first Nawaki and then Tsunade's lover met tragic fates. Soon after, Kushina Uzumaki, the Senju's Jinchuriki, was manipulated to align with the Hokage's interests. All these events hinted at an ongoing political struggle within Konoha, suggesting that the Senju had ultimately lost ground.
Elder Setsuna continued, "White Fang's lack of a clan background is another reason why our Uchiha clan can find common cause with other families in Konoha."
Encouraged by Mikoto's supportive glance, Yosuke became more determined, shouting, "Clan Leader, Elder, rest assured. I will do everything I can to get close to Kushina Uzumaki, the next Nine-Tails Jinchuriki."
Glancing at Mikoto, Yosuke began piecing together the intricate layers of clan alliances. No wonder Mikoto was so close to Kushina; it seemed the Uchiha had two plans in place. And for Yosuke to associate freely with the Nine-Tails Jinchuriki—could the Senju clan be tacitly allowing this? It made sense that discontent was brewing between major clans and the Hokage, and Yosuke realized how these alliances might shape the future of Konoha.
At that moment, Mikoto, who had been silent, spoke up, "Clan Leader, Elder, while Yosuke is currently under Lady Tsunade's team, the opportunities to interact with Kushina Uzumaki are still limited. Despite my presence, any association could raise suspicion. But Yosuke's newly awakened double Kekkei Genkai does require Lady Tsunade's medical support, which could provide more chances to meet Kushina. However, the medication for cell stability is highly precious."
Seeing the seriousness in Mikoto's expression, Elder Setsuna couldn't help but feel amused. Knowing of her relationship with Yosuke, he could see through her suggestion. Yosuke, in turn, looked gratefully at Mikoto, appreciating the support.
The clan leader and Elder Setsuna exchanged a quick, approving glance. Yosuke's combination of physical talents and a legitimate reason for connecting with Tsunade would make this mission more feasible.
"The clan will not neglect any of its members," the Elder assured him. "For your Kekkei Genkai condition, Yosuke, the clan will provide monthly resources for treatment. Don't let the clan's investment go to waste."
Leaving the Naka Shrine afterward, Fugaku approached Yosuke with a slightly embarrassed expression. "Yosuke, here's a scroll with techniques for those who have unlocked the Sharingan."
Yosuke smiled, nodding in gratitude. "Thank you, Captain Fugaku."
Fugaku, feeling somewhat awkward, replied with sincerity, "Yosuke, your dedication won't be forgotten by the clan."
At this moment, Mikoto added with a gentle smile, "Captain Fugaku, Yosuke's strength was already formidable, and now with the Sharingan, he'll be entering a period of enhanced chakra and physical capabilities. I heard the clan recently acquired quite a bit of chakra metal."
Though she didn't finish her sentence, the implication was clear. Yosuke gave an internal nod of approval but maintained a composed expression, raising his hand to stop her. "Mikoto, we are all working for the clan."
Seeing Yosuke's sincere determination, Fugaku nodded awkwardly yet gratefully. Though no words were exchanged, Yosuke sensed he would soon receive a chakra metal weapon as well.
