The room was getting colder now. Doric could not feel it but he could see frost building up on the floor centered on Welsher. Doric popped up his monocle spell as soon as he saw he frost.
Welsher grinned "Good, you pick up quick. What am I doing right now?" He stood there as the room continued to get colder. Doric scanned the area and saw a ton of symbols and tags all over but one stood out from them.
Symbol Fire
Tags- Touch, Area of Effect, Absorb, Hasten, Cumulative, Investment, Enhance, Time Limit, Burst, Area of Effect.
As he was reading the tags he was able to read what it meant. "So it starts when you touch the ground, an area around you absorbs the heat quickly, then it contains it over time and makes it more powerful. Then after a certain amount of time it will burst out in a large area."
Right as he said that last part his mouth gaped open.
"You got it right Doric! Very quick on the uptake but maybe not quick enough." Welsher laughed as he continued to stand there. "What will you do with this knowledge, TIme is ticking."
Doric looked around and tried to imagine something he could use to protect himself with. He saw the Symbols and tags all around him they all said the same thing.
Symbol- Mana, Soul
Tags- Binding, Protection, Area of Effect, Healing, Cumulative, Investment, Hastened.
He kept looking for any other spells before realizing something.
"I am going to stand here. You can't hurt me right now." Doric looked determined while watching Welsher tap his foot on the ground as if waiting for something to happen.
"Is that so?" He responded crossing his arms. "Time's up!" The room was now an icy fortress and from under Welsher's foot came an explosion of fire so strong that it should have melted him right then and there.
It consumed Doric and he screamed in agony. It hurt alright. More than anything he had ever felt before. "What's going on!" Doric cried out. The fire subsided and the room was now covered in a small pool of water. He was beginning to fade in and out of consciousness but something changed.
He could feel his soul repairing itself. The wounds he had just received were leaving him replacing itself with bone and blue flames. Welsher laughed.
"You did well to survive that. I created this room as a torture chamber really. But it also makes for great sparring and teaching. You see, while you are in this room your soul cannot move on if you die. Instead, you will continue to inhabit your dead corpse until it's healed to the point of living again."
He put his hands on his waist and let out a bellow "It's an extreme way of training you but I need you to understand your limits and that will require dying a few times. Think you can handle it?"
Doric did not know what to think. That was a pain he did not want to experience again but it looked like he really did not have any choice in the matter it was either learn magic from Welsher or go back out into the wilds and fend for himself in a foreign world.
"Very well, what is the first thing we need to do?" Doric responded with determination in his voice. He could only imagine the kind of training his allies were getting. He hoped they would be alright.
Skia awoke in a room filled with shadows. She was lying in a bed she was not familiar with and she could feel energy flowing back into her. A voice came from the corner.
"Sorry about that, I was not aware you were so inexperienced with shadow magic. I will do better next time to start off with the very basics."
The voice was familiar and comforting to Skia. "It's alright, I am sorry for letting you down like that."
Onyx floated in view and continued in her monotone voice. "Please if you could, tell me what you know about shadow magic and we can go from there."
Sitting up slowly Skia took a deep breath in as she felt every fiber in her being cry out. "Well, I know how to move between shadows and I can make myself and those within a certain area invisible to people as long as we are in shadows for a short time."
Onyx nodded. "Is there anything else you know?"
Skia shook her head. "No, I never really had a chance to learn much growing up. I was locked away in a prison my whole life and never really tried learning."
Floating up and down slowly Onyx pondered for a moment. "No one taught you those spells, they came innately?"
Nodding she took another slow deep breath in. "I just knew I could do it if I tried. Like something called out to me at the moment and told me what I could do."
Putting her hand on her chin Onxy started floating backward on her back slowly as if floating on water.
"Interesting, most humans born from shadow people retain more of their human aspects but it seems you gained more of the recessive traits of your shadow parent. This is good we can hone this and strengthen you."
Skia felt happy but in pain. She smiled and Onxy waved to her to lay back down. "I will be back with some food. You keep recovering and we will continue some more once you've eaten.
Mauve and Nyssa were laughing to each other and having a blast going over books about different kinds of plants and animal parts.
"This one is great for curing paralysis, this one is good for tummy aches and this one really makes you feel good he, he." Mauve was flipping through the book to random pages and explaining the ingredients. Nyssa was a little lost but she did her best to keep up. She was learning so much in a short span of time but she was having a blast none the less.
"I wonder how Skia and Doric are doing. I hope there having as much fun as us!" Nyssa giggled as she kept taking notes.
"Knowing Onyx she is being very gentle with Skia and well Master Welsher is either laughing with Doric or trying to kill him. It's really a toss of the coin." She laughed some more and flipped to the next page. "This one…"
Nyssa looked concerned for a moment and cut her off. "Trying to kill him? Is he going to be alright?"
Mauve waved away the concerns and patted Nyssa's head. "Oh, don't you worry one bit. He may die a few times but he won't stay dead. Welsher is just going to give him so tough love. Trust me, he will be just fine!"
