POV: ELLE
I stare at the window, drinking in the memories as I was driven home from the airport. My parents had sent a driver to pick me up. It's been five years since I left for college. I notice new houses, restaurants, schools, that wasn't there five years ago. My parent's house still looked the same though.
"Elleee" Dylan screamed as he ran to give me a hug. Dylan was my 10year old Nephew. He was an Alpha. My dad's sister, aunt May, died while giving birth to him. His dad went feral as a result of her death. My parents took him and has raised him ever since. I love him so much. As an only child, he's like the younger brother I never had.
"Dylannn, I've missed you so much" I said picking him up and giving him lots of kisses.
He giggled "I missed you too Elle. I've been waiting for you since yesterday. I didn't sleep much cause I was so happy and anxious." he rambled.
"Aww you're sooo cute" I pinched his cheeks and gave him one last big kiss and dropped him. He immediately took my hands. I finally looked at the people in front of me.
"Yeah, we're here. Both of you obviously don't have love left to give us right?" mom said elbowing my dad for some sort of backup
"um, yeah, what she said" dad quickly said. I rolled my eyes and gave both of them a hug.
"I missed you guys so much". I said taking in their scents. My parents were honestly the best.
"We missed you, my love" dad said. "We're glad you're back. I'm sure the whole pack is. They've been talking excitedly about it. We've planned a small welcome party tonight to celebrate". Mom said a big smile on her face.
"You didn't have to mom"
"You know I definitely do"
"yeah" I said and we both laughed
"Let's get inside so you can rest before the party." dad said.
After a little catching up with my parents and Dylan, I went to my room. It was exactly how I left it , everything in place. A small smile on my face as I walked around the room. Then I remembered. I went to my drawer, under a bunch of my highschool books, I found them. The letters I had written to Mason but never sent them.
Mason. The name I loved to hear as a kid. He was my first real friend. My first crush. He was so handsome and kind. He wasn't like the mean and evil vampires we had read about in history class. He was funny and even introduced me to his best friend, josh. I was so happy. I didn't tell him though, I didn't want him to know.
'What if he didn't want to be my friend after he finds out?' I had thought. My mom noticed soon our friendship.
FLASHBACK
"You seem to like Mason a lot" she said
"Yeah, he's really a nice person mom. He really treats me like his friend. I like him a lot" I said blushing
"oooh someone has a crush" my mom said in a sing song voice.
"Mom stooop" I giggled. "its just a little crush" I mumbled, the blush still present.
She thought for a few seconds before asking "Well, would like to marry him someday? When you're a lot older?
Excitement bubbled inside me. "Really? That can happen?. I would really like that" I said the last part quietly with a huge smile on my face.
"Very well then. Someone has a crushhh" she teased
"Mommm" I drawled, running to my room. I was happy.
END OF FLASHBACK
That happiness died the day Mason told me of his crush on his classmate; Kylie. I was devastated but I decided to be a good friend. I didn't want to let my crush get in the way of his happiness. I even advices him to confess. I remember coming back from the party, straight to my room to cry. I pretended to be fine fine at the next party.
'He was happy right? I was being a good friend right?' Questions I didn't have answers to till this day.
Everything was normal, except from the occasional feeling that something was off with him. I wasn't really sure but the occasional tight and forced smile made me lean towards that feeling.
It wasn't until he traveled out for highschool that I knew something was definitely wrong. He didn't reply my calls or texts, he blocked me. Then I wanted to send letters instead. I wrote but couldn't bring myself to send them. It was when my classmate told me about the conversation she overheard her parents having about an arranged marriage with Mason that I remembered the marriage discussion with my mom.
But by that time it was already too late. The marriage was already signed between both families, pulling out of it would only bring tension between the pack and the vampire clan. I just kept on writing letters in hope that one day, I would be able to give them to him.
~~~~~
A lot of pack members attended surprisingly. Dancing, music, drinking, eating made the party lively. Many pack members had come to say hello to me. I guess my parents weren't lying when they said they were happy I was back. I was happy to see them too. I recognized some of my classmates from highschool. Many were already married. It was nice to be back home.
"Hey Elle" I heard turning to my left. I immediately recognized her. She sat in front of me during math in highschool. She was good at it too. She was black with dark eyes. Her long black braids touched her waist. She was pretty.
"Hi Bernice. It's good to see you." i said with a smile. We were friends in highschool. Well, sort of.
"You remember me. It's good to see you too."
"Of course I remember. You sat with your best friend in math class. Um, Jess was it?"
"Ugh, don't remind me of that ugly stupid fucking bitch" she said scrunching her face in disgust
I was taken aback by her reaction. Bernice and Jess had been inseparable. I wanted to have a best friend like that too." Woah, What happened?"
"That stupid whore had been fucking my fiancé before he even proposed to me." she said, her eyes flashing red.
"That's really terrible." I said getting angry myself. Why would anyone do that to their friend let alone best friend?
"I caught them having sex at her house. After threatening to pound both their faces she told me they've been fucking for the longest time. I didn't even know who to be more mad at. My best friend since middle school or my boyfriend since highschool." she said, getting teary-eyed.
"New wound?"
"Yeah, last month" she sighed. She looked at me with a forced smile. " I'm sorry for dumping everything on you. We just met after a long time and I couldn't shut my mouth" she said quietly
"I don't really mind. Anytime you wanna vent, just call me. Friends right?" She nodded with a small smile.
"It's too sad now. What do u say we get drunk somewhere?" I asked with a little smirk
"I knew you'd be fun. Let's get out of here" she said. We left the party to her place.
