Chapter 21 - Chapter- 20 : The Practical Test

"Attention Everyone!"

A teacher walked out of the building near the ground and said in a loud enough voice for all the students to hear.

It is a male teacher who seems to be in his late twenties.

He has a rather ordinary face but a sturdy build, seems to be someone who is proficient in combat.

"Everyone, divide and line up, girls on the right and boys on the left"

He just took a short look around the student and instructed us to make two separate groups based on gender.

"I am Ben Carter, your invigilator for this test. You can call me either sir or teacher. Now I will be conducting the test so prepare yourself"

Sir Ben, another supporting character from the game.

He is a magic knight who can use aura and barrier magic.

Barrier magic is a low tier attribute as its only function is to create barriers but if someone can practice it up to a really high level then it is not inferior to any other attribute.

"What a let down. I heard the invigilator for the previous shift was a young female teacher"

I heard a male student from behind me talking with his friend.

"It can't be helped, there was his highness in the previous shift so the academy must have been considerate"

"But I wish it was a beautiful teacher instead of this rigid man"

Really what the heck is wrong with these kids?

Aren't you all from noble families? Where are your etiquettes?

More importantly, where the heck did you get all this information from!?

"You two! Walk out!"

Sir Ben called out the two boys who were talking. I don't think he heard what they said but maybe he just noticed them whispering.

"Introduce yourself"

"My name is Breek Huck, from the viscount family of Lotad"

"My name is Mason Worthy, from the viscount family of Wooper"

Both of the boys introduced themselves, they are both from viscount families.

"Okay, we will start with two of you. Go there and start a duel, show everything you got. And remember weapons including staff and wands are not allowed."

Sir Ben suddenly ordered them to duel and even forbid the use of all equipment.

He really does not beat around the bush, as straightforward as mentioned in the game.

"But will not our magic get weaker without a wand or staff?"

Breek asked the question, and I can see many students nodding with his words.

"It is the opposite way around. The magic you use without any magic tool is your real magic power. No kind of outside help is allowed in this test"

He is completely right.

Though a good weapon or magic tool can enhance your strength but in the end you have to survive without them in urgent times.

If you can't cast a spell without a magic tool then you are not qualified to be a magic user.

Heading the instructions the two boys entered the field in the middle of the practice ground.

Both of them stood at opposite ends of the field, facing each other.

"Sorry Breek, but I will not go easy on you just because you are my friend"

Mason said as he stretches his hands and wind gathered on his palms. He is a wind magic user.

"Same goes here, I am gonna show you who is superior"

Breek said as he lowered his stance and placed his right hand on the ground. Probably an earth magic user.

"Now take my Wind Spheres"

Mason said as he threw two spheres of winds that were formed on both of his palms.

Those 'Wind Spheres' are..... very weak.

They are only a little bigger than a fist size but this is not enough to do anything at the distance both of them are standing at.

Even without a magic staff I can create a magic sphere strong enough to blow away an average adult human.

And as you expect from such weak wind spheres, Breek dodged them since they were also slow.

"Now it's my turn, 'Stone Age'!"

Breek said while placing both of his hands on the ground as fist size pieces of sharp rocks were released from the ground towards Mason.

"Wind Barrier!"

Mason could actually dodge those stones but decided to cast a wind barrier, well what I saw was more like 'Gale' instead of a 'Wind Barrier'.

What the heck are these two doing?

What do they expect by fighting from such a distance without a magic staff and with such weak spells?

And why are you taking turns and shouting the name of your spell out loud?

Is this a Pok*mon Battle or something?

[Background music: I wanna be the very best, like no one ever was...Pok*mon!]

Their stupid battle lasted for quite a few minutes and it really got everyone bored.

I can already see annoyed expressions on sir Ben's face.

The battle ended with Mason's victory.

Of course with such a stupid fighting style, the one with the magic of longer range would win.

After that, all of the students took turns for the duel. At least not everyone was like those two and did well.

Especially Ian who went in the fourth round and easily defeated his opponent.

Ian also has twin attributes, Sound and Barrier, though he rarely uses both of them together.

Also I didn't expect Lily to be so proficient, her affinity with 'Nature' is quite strong as she can use unique spells like 'Growth' and 'Mana Drain'.

When it was Elena's turn, it was such a one sided battle as she used 'Black Advent' a dual attribute spell which defeated her fire attribute opponent in no time.

'Black Advent' is like a hurricane with a dark element added in it.

Her strength has really increased by large margin after absorbing the magic core of a 'Nightmare Peacock'.

All the students were left astonished after seeing such a strong spell in just an entrance test.

After defeating her opponent, Elena looked at me as if asking 'how was it?'

I responded with a thumbs up.

'That was actually overkill!' I didn't let out my inner thoughts.
