Chapter 26 - Chapter 26: Out of the crack

The huntress Daphne took the lead, the Kaldvargr was a monster she could handle without any trouble.

("Of course, she was in the area, I had forgotten that initially, the mission was just reconnaissance").

Martyn, meanwhile, took the potion, keeping his attention on the fight that was about to begin.

The best way to learn was by observing, especially a huntress from the Greek headquarters, considered the strongest in Neo Tyran.

[You have recovered 100% of your health]

[HP: 120/120]

The system's message left Alexander speechless, it was the first time he had taken a potion.

But he felt completely recovered!

Even though he still had wounds, he felt no pain.

"Blasphemy!"

Martyn's attention was drawn by the Kaldvargr's shouts, as it was being beaten by Daphne.

The girl kept her distance while launching attacks at the Kaldvargr, who took them all.

This was the power of a high-level hunter; the monster that had given Martyn and the others so much trouble was being humiliated.

In a desperate moment, the Kaldvargr made several jumps backward but was instantly caught by the girl, receiving another blow.

("This is amazing, will I become just as strong once I level up my stats?").

Martyn couldn't help but smile in excitement.

He could become a hunter equal to or even superior to Daphne in a few months!

The huntress Daphne was known for quickly finishing her missions.

For her, the most effective way to resolve a conflict was by eliminating the threat as fast as possible.

And that's exactly what she was doing to the Kaldvargr, not giving it a chance to escape or recover.

("Let's finish this").

With that thought, the girl's chains turned into a large sword, but it was peculiar.

The sword was as flexible as a whip!

With a strong lash, the Kaldvargr's body was cut in half by the girl, who didn't even break a sweat.

[Congratulations]

[One of your allies has defeated the boss monster: Kaldvargr]

[Because one of your companions dealt the final blow, you will not receive any rewards and your experience will be halved]

[You have earned 100 experience points]

[EXP: 785/1040]

("Wow, I don't know whether to feel happy or sad").

Martyn felt relieved that the Kaldvargr was finally dead, but on the other hand, he had lost the opportunity to grow stronger.

"Threat neutralized."

With a smile, the girl turned her attention back to Martyn and Roy.

"The rift should disappear in a few minutes, let's leave…".

The girl began explaining kindly, it seemed like the hell had ended.

But, to Martyn's surprise, Daphne suddenly stopped and put on a serious expression again.

"One second, protect the girl," said the huntress as she summoned her chains again.

Wasn't the Kaldvargr supposed to be dead? The system had never been wrong.

"Who are you and why are you here? Did you think I wouldn't notice you!?" Daphne shouted as she stared at nothing.

"Well, it seems I can't fool a Greek hunter."

But surprisingly, a voice answered the girl.

It was the voice of a woman apparently older than Daphne, which could be discerned by her calm and deep tone.

Slowly, her figure became visible, it was the same plump woman Martyn had seen when everything started.

"You're the cause of all this, aren't you!?" Daphne responded fiercely.

She knew something was off; the rift had only been detected when it was already active, something that shouldn't have happened.

"It doesn't take a genius to figure that out. Yes, I'm the cause of all this, and if you're wondering why I'm doing it, it's simple."

The woman stretched out her hand towards Roy. Seconds later, the girl began to levitate, but she was caught by Martyn.

("I see, they're after Roy's power, I can't let them get near"). Martyn tightened his grip on the girl as he opened his inventory.

[Weapon: Dagger Greenflare]

Martyn made his intentions clear to defend the girl.

"You have something that belongs to us, sinners." The woman finished speaking with a smile and, in the blink of an eye, appeared in front of Martyn.

"Then give it to me!"

The mysterious woman extended her hand, but it was stopped by Daphne's chains, which had taken on a golden texture.

Daphne had waited for the woman to approach to get her within reach.

"Looks like I'll catch a big fish today, I'll take down a believer of the dark gods," Daphne spoke arrogantly as the chains began sprouting roses.

Martyn decided to seize the opportunity and began charging all his mana into his dagger, ready to strike at any moment.

"Fine, you can keep her for now. After all, I've completed the first step."

The mysterious woman responded unexpectedly to the situation.

Why was she so calm when cornered?

But the answer to this intrigue came quickly: Daphne's chains started to melt, giving the woman time to flee.

Her body began to grow more transparent.

Not wanting to give her any time, the huntress Daphne went after her, but just as she was about to catch her, the woman finished disappearing.

Along with her, the entire area changed: the icy cold stopped freezing, and the green leaves became visible again.

The rift had vanished.

"Damn it, I almost had her!" Daphne grumbled, visibly angry.

"Well, we don't need to worry about that for now, I think we should get out of here."

Daphne smiled again before taking out her phone to make a call.

After several minutes, several ships arrived, along with medics and people from the main headquarters.

The survivors were taken directly to the main headquarters to give their testimonies.

But, due to Daphne's intervention, Roy was taken to the Greek guild.

The girl had woken up but didn't remember anything that had happened.

Martyn, on the other hand, was held in an interrogation room at the main headquarters.

"You survived, and they died? Looks like the strategy of hiding paid off for you, you filthy impure."

Martyn faced one of the mission executives from the main headquarters.

He didn't believe the story that an impure had survived something that five blessed hunters couldn't.

After several minutes of insults and defamation, Martyn decided to respond.
