"It wasn't my fault, the voices told me to do it, I didn't want to!"
Roy launched several attacks at Martyn, which he dodged with ease.
It seems like Roy's mental state is unstable.
Could it be a personality disorder or something similar?
It was unclear, but now wasn't the time to find out, and Martyn knew it.
He quickly grabbed the girl's hand and threw her to the ground. Roy still tried to attack him, but Martyn managed to restrain her.
"Hey, Roy, what's going on? What happened to your eyes?" Martyn finally noticed something.
Roy's eyes were the same as the others, but she was the only one who seemed to be alive.
Could it be an effect of her ability? Is she a necromancer?
For Martyn, this made sense; after all, the system had confirmed Henry's and the others' deaths earlier.
It's impossible that they were fighting against the Kaldvargr, especially in that state.
Necromancy is a taboo in Neo Tyran, as it's a power that can only be granted by dark gods.
The closest thing to this was the spirit controller from the Japanese guild, and this was very different from what was happening with Roy.
"Revenge, death."
Despite being cornered, the girl showed no signs of surrendering. Because of this, the undead who were attacking the Kaldvargr focused their attention on Martyn.
("Damn, this is a problem. Sorry, Roy.")
Martyn opted to strike the girl's neck, successfully knocking her out.
As if a switch had been flipped, all the undead fell to the ground, ceasing to show any signs of movement.
"Well, we've solved one of the problems, now let's move on to the second."
Martyn focused his attention on his true target, the Kaldvargr standing before him.
The first thing that caught Martyn's attention was the monster's purple skin color; he was sure it was blue.
Adding to this, all those black veins didn't seem like a good sign. After analyzing it, Martyn spoke:
"This must be that woman's doing. Did she do this to you?"
Martyn didn't have to search for many clues; it was more than obvious what was happening.
The girl from before had somehow powered up the monster; this was something few hunters could do, but considering someone with a dark blessing, it couldn't be ruled out.
Now, what was Martyn doing trying to talk to a monster like him?
It's not like he could just leave the fight and go have a cup of tea.
But these weren't Martyn's intentions; while he questioned it, he charged mana into his dagger, which he had drawn in secret.
"Blasphemers, sinners!"
But unfortunately for him, the Kaldvargr noticed the mana charge, ignored the question, and went straight for Martyn.
He was somewhat injured after the fight against Roy's undead; even if he killed them, they kept reappearing over and over.
Martyn noticed this and patiently waited for the Kaldvargr to get close enough to unleash the accumulated mana charge.
The Kaldvargr protected itself with an ice wall, losing sight of Martyn, who took advantage of this to prepare his next attack.
[Abilities:]
[Precise Cuts]
The best thing to do in this situation was to aim for the neck and finish it off, so that's what he did.
But the Kaldvargr reacted in time and caught the weapon with its teeth.
"Sorry, but..."
With a smile, Martyn released a mana charge that hit the monster's entire face.
"I don't fall for the same trick twice."
Martyn decided to put some distance between them; he was sure it had been a critical hit, but the system hadn't notified him of a victory.
Just as he suspected, the Kaldvargr had created some kind of ice protection in its mouth, managing to shield itself from the attack.
In fact, initially, it had taken some damage, visible by a piece of its face that was destroyed, which it repaired with ice.
The Kaldvargr had done the same with all the wounds it had suffered in the fight with Roy's undead.
"I admit, that was pretty clever."
Martyn had regained some mana, but he knew he didn't have much left to use.
He had to be cautious if he didn't want to meet the same fate as his companions.
Without wasting any time, the Kaldvargr charged at Martyn again, creating an ice spear.
Martyn opted to get as close to the Kaldvargr as possible; if he stayed at a distance, the Kaldvargr would have the advantage.
He slashed at it several times, but the Kaldvargr dodged them all. Even though it was injured, it could still maintain a good combat rhythm.
After dodging, the Kaldvargr thrust at Martyn, but he simply dodged by ducking.
But this was the opportunity the Kaldvargr had been waiting for; instantly, several ice spikes shot up from the ground, piercing Martyn's feet.
[HP: 85/120]
"Damn it!"
Martyn was forced to his knees before the Kaldvargr.
Without wasting any time, the Kaldvargr aimed and prepared its next attack from above, which was headed straight for Martyn's neck.
"Not so fast, you son of a bitch!"
Having charged a large amount of mana, Martyn fired a powerful blast at the Kaldvargr.
Due to the distance between them and the fact that it was a surprise attack, the Kaldvargr was blasted away, giving Martyn enough time to free himself.
"I'm going to lose; I can't win in a battle of endurance."
Coming to that conclusion, Martyn decided to take Roy's body and hide behind a rock.
The Kaldvargr was just recovering from that attack; due to the distance, it had suffered a significant wound to its abdomen.
Just like before, it decided to cover itself with ice and went after Martyn.
Hiding behind a rock wasn't enough to escape it.
So in a few seconds, it was leaping over the rock, but to its surprise, as soon as it rose to strike, a massive steel mace was in front of it.
"Wham!"
[Critical Hit]
[The enemy has suffered a 5% knockback.]
The sound echoed through the area; the Kaldvargr had been struck hard with a mace, sending it flying once again.
"Well, Kaldvargr." Martyn spoke confidently, standing on the rock.
The most notable thing was Fenrir's mace, which he held with both hands.
[You have equipped the defensive hood.]
"Round two."
