Chereads / The Crown of Destiny / Chapter 10 - 9 years

Chapter 10 - 9 years

Two full years had passed since I obtained my Class and had that dream. In these two years, I had the same dream once each year, which made me think it was just a recurring nightmare.

The day after I obtained my Class, I showed the others the skill Quick Slash with which I easily cut the practice dummy.

Upon seeing that I had obtained my Class, Alonso had to increase my training a bit so I could catch up to the others as soon as possible.

In the village, I started hearing a few conversations related to my Class.

"Could she have awakened her Class because she was close to dying?"

"It might have been because of the poison."

"I think the witch had something to do with it. She could have done some kind of experiment on her."

"I've thought about that too."

"She should have gotten the Cleric Class, so we wouldn't have to go look for that witch anymore."

Some were saying stupid things, and others said a few interesting ones, but in the end, I realized they didn't like Mireth, even though she had saved them for many years, even when several of them were children, and she was already an adult woman.

Back to training, Alonso started giving me some pretty intense training.

He made us hold rocks in our hands while running until we were exhausted, and then we would start sword training.

Because of the training, the two of them glared at me a bit angrily, blaming me for the training even though I had nothing to do with it, and it was just something Alonso made us do.

Unlike the others, Alonso had me practice my skill because, according to him, the more I used it, the more accustomed I'd become. He also told me not to use it too often, as I had to wait for intervals; otherwise, my mana would drain too quickly, leaving me unable to use abilities until it recovered.

At first, I didn't understand that, as in the stories I had read, only magic used mana, but here it's different. Here, magic is part of the abilities of the Mage Class, and the same goes for the Cleric Class, where their miracles require mana, and without it, they can't perform them. That's why mana potions are so important, no matter what Class you have.

I thought that while training, I might get another skill, but I didn't get anything at all.

It wasn't like I got depressed, but I did think I'd get another one. However, thanks to that, I could focus on just one at a time.

Once, I tried to spar against Alonso, and he easily defeated me without even using any skills. That's when I realized that abilities alone aren't enough—learning how to fight is just as important.

I also wanted to know what was outside the village, as I didn't know anything about the outside world, and Mireth didn't seem to know much either, being a hermit. So, I asked Alonso.

"What's outside the village? There are many things. For example, there are cities that are like much bigger villages, with many more people," Alonso told me.

'Well, I already knew that,' I thought.

"No, you didn't know, but there's a group of people called Adventurers, who are affiliated with the Adventurers Guild. They do different jobs like killing monsters, protecting carriages, and more. If we had almost all died years ago and the witch hadn't been there, they would've had to make a request to them."

"So something like that exists. I guess that's something," I thought.

He told me that when he was young, he had left the village and met many adventurers who were much stronger than him. He also met some knights who were in charge of protecting the entire kingdom, called the Lionheart Knights, from the Lionheart Family.

When the three of us were eight years old, Alonso first took us hunting, along with a few hunters who would make sure nothing bad happened to us.

The animal we had to hunt was a boar, so we had to start tracking it.

We began by trying to find any signs of a boar, like footprints, droppings, or traces.

We found some tracks that led us to a small pond, where we saw the boar drinking water carelessly, so we prepared.

We had to try to get closer little by little until the boar was within our reach. We were surrounding it in case it ran away after seeing us.

The girl in the group, named Selene, stepped on a branch, which alerted the boar, causing it to run. We tried to follow it, but it was too fast, so I grabbed the sword Alonso gave us and used Quick Slash, making the cut land directly on the boar, knocking it down.

Since it fell, we rushed towards it to attack, and we managed to do so because the boy named Caelum used his spear to stab it in the side, preventing it from moving properly.

Selene used a sword to cut it in the upper part of the body, and I, using Quick Slash again, was able to decapitate it cleanly, completing our first hunt.

Over the next year, we continued going on hunts twice a month so we could get used to hunting, which worked because we slowly started making fewer mistakes, though some prey still managed to escape.

Right now, I was on my way to the cabin with a piece of meat, looking at my stats after a hunt.

"Quick Slash has barely increased. Should I keep using it until my mana runs out?"

As I was walking along the path to the cabin, I saw something moving in the grass, so I unsheathed my sword to prepare in case it was an animal.

I heard a strange sound, so I thought it might be a dangerous animal, but what came out of the grass was a purple, yellow, and green snake with two heads.

"What kind of snake is that?"

The snake saw me and went to attack, so I dodged and stepped on it, pinning it to the ground.

"I could take it to Grandma."

I sheathed my sword and squeezed both heads to prevent it from biting me.

When I reached the cabin, I opened the door with my body and didn't see Grandma inside.

"Grandma! I brought a rare snake!"

I heard footsteps until Grandma arrived at the door.

"A rare snake?"

Mireth looked at me, then at the snake, and for a second, I saw her smile widen.

"Bring it here, quickly!"

I followed her to the potion room, where she grabbed a large jar and placed it on the floor.

"Put it inside."

I did, and I saw the snake try to escape, but the jar was too big.

"Grandma, what kind of...?"

Mireth shoved a potion into my mouth for me to drink, which I did. Afterward, she handed me a damp cloth with a green liquid.

"Start cleaning your hands," she ordered.

"What's going on?" I asked as I cleaned.

"This snake is called Nyssarven; it's a very poisonous snake. The first head has a powerful paralytic venom that would prevent you from moving, and the second head has venom that would start to melt your skin and muscles. Even its skin is poisonous. That's why I gave you an Antivenom."

'Well, next time, snake I see, snake I kill.'

I got chills thinking about what it could have done to me.

"If it's so dangerous, why did you put it in a jar?" I asked, wondering what she'd do if it escaped.

"Because I want to make the Thousand Poisons venom," she said with a smile.

"What's that?" I asked, not knowing.

She sighed and began explaining.

What she told me was that the Thousand Poisons venom, as its name suggests, is a combination of a thousand poisons capable of killing any creature that exists. It's so invasive that even a dragon can die from it, and they are the creatures with the highest resistance to poison.

She told me that to make it, poisonous animals and plants are needed, which are kept in a closed space until only one animal remains, which would carry the venom in its body.

"It's really impressive."

"Of course it is. I still can't do it, but I'm sure I'll manage and become the most powerful alchemist," she said with a hint of excitement.

'I suppose so.'

I looked out the window, remembering that a few weeks were left before I turned 10 and hoping I could get another skill.
