Chapter 1 - The Delivery Driver

I admit it.

I was fat.

But I couldn't cook, so every now and then I would order some food online and have it delivered to my house, walking to a restaurant was too much of a hassle for someone like me.

But after that. After the incident, I don't think I'll ever order food to my house again...

You see, I lived in a very rural area, completely surrounded by trees and isolated from civilization, the only connection being a single road that ran alongside the forest I lived in. I've always been a person who kept to myself and didn't particularly enjoy the company of others, so living in a tiny cabin in a quiet place was like heaven to me.

----

It was night, the only sounds that could be heard from outside were the leaves rustling around in the wind and owls hooting.

I was up at night working to make some extra money, I can never really sleep anyway so I prefer to spend my time usefully. Unsurprisingly, I was feeling incredibly hungry and started craving some pizza. I ordered it from the closest pizza hut near me like I usually would do, still about a half an hour drive away.

I rung them up and started ordering the usual pizza I get, but no one was conversing with me.

Not even a "hello."

I repeatedly kept asking if anyone was there, but there was no reply.

I figured it was just poor connection, after all I did live in a cabin in the middle of basically nowhere and the phone service here wasn't really the best. I tried a second time but my efforts were met with the same fate. No response. Angered by my greed being unsatisfied , my appetite was ruined and I went back to work.

About an hour went by before I decided to call it a night and rest a bit if I could, but just before I could hop into my bed, a light started flashing from my bedroom window.

There was a car outside.

I wondered what it could be until it occurred to me that about an hour prior I ordered some pizza. Excitedly, I ran outside and saw it was the same car that the pizza hut I ordered from uses for their deliveries.

The headlights of the car were on, and were so bright to the point that they were blinding me so I covered up my eyes when walking towards the car.

I opened my eyes when the light was no longer shining at face level and walked round to the driver's seat where the window was open.

I peaked in and... there was no one in the car, only a single pizza box on the passenger seat.

I called out waiting for a response, but just like the phone call, nothing. I hoped for the best thinking the delivery driver just needed to take a leak after a long drive so he probably had run off behind a tree.

I took the pizza box from the seat, but it was cold. I opened it, and what I saw is to this day engraved into my mind.

There was red everywhere, and in the middle, the face of a man.

It looked like it was torn off the man's head. No eyes. Just the flesh of a face crying out for help.

I looked back at my house ready to make a run. But there was someone in the doorway.

And what I saw an image even more terrifying than the last.

A tall slender figure, also wearing what at first looked like a mask, but at closer inspection, he was wearing another cut up face on his own head, blood still dripping down from freshly cut up flesh.

He had a knife in one hand, covered in blood, and the other hand, I could see he had lost two fingers. Cut off. Blood still gushing from them

What the hell was going on? Was this some sick joke?

He was just looking at me, and I looked back, frozen in fear as they say.

All of a sudden I saw him move, I felt my body jerk. And then... he started to run.

Finally, in a moment of adrenaline, my body finally moved and I started to run.

But my own greed would come back to punish me.

I was too fat, I ran deep into the woods, the man still chasing me, but I was already out of breath. I couldn't run anymore and started coughing uncontrollably.

The soothing rustling of the leaves were dead, the liveliness of the owls could no longer be heard, the forest was silent, only my noise could be heard, my cough.

The man had caught up and was only a few feet away from me now.

I fell to my knees while coughing and saw the man as clear as ever now, he jumped up ready to stab me with that knife he was carrying.

Quickly, I saw a massive branch on the floor and whacked him with it on his face.

This time he fell to the floor dropping his knife into the forest. I stepped on the hand he had with three fingers on and heard an inhumane screech leaving him.

Just then, behind the forest I could hear the sound of a car coming up the road, and so I ran out jumping in front of it to get it to halt. I sat in the car and slammed the door shut.

"Drive!" I shouted.

I asked for the driver's phone and immediately called the police and revealed to them the sights I had seen.

The person kept driving and I asked them to stop at the nearest gas station.

There was now light after what felt like an ever-lasting night.

I could hear police sirens in the distance and soon I was met with them at the station.

They informed me that a disturbance from the same pizza hut was reported a few hours ago, and when the authorities arrived, they were welcomed to the sight of a massacre, all workers dead, the only damage done to the man was two fingers of his being cut off.

They said the car was still in front of my house and they had recovered two faces and had identified them as the faces of two employees in the pizza hut.

The police set up security around my cabin and the forest after that to ensure my safety and in hopes to find him.

But they couldn't.

To this day he is still out there, out in the world, perhaps doing what he does again...
