Chapter 1 - The unexpected encounter

Dorathy was a tall, pretty, and lovely girl, with a shy and mysterious aura that surrounded her like a soft, golden glow. Her bright brown eyes sparkled with a hint of curiosity, and her long, dark hair cascaded down her back like a waterfall of night. She had a way of carrying herself that was both confident and uncertain, as if she was still finding her footing in the world.

It was her first day in school, and the excitement was palpable. She had changed environments so often that she was now used to the feeling of being a stranger in a new place. Her mom's job had taken them to so many different countries, and Dorathy had learned to adapt quickly. But despite her tough exterior, she couldn't help but feel a twinge of nervousness as she stood in front of the mirror, smoothing out her uniform and practicing her smile.

"Come on, honeyyyy!" her mom, Vicky, screamed from downstairs, her voice echoing up the stairs like a loud, cheerful bell. "You're gonna be late for your first day of school!!" Dorathy rolled her eyes good-naturedly and hurried down the stairs, her feet pounding out a rapid rhythm on the steps.

"I'm coming, mummy," she replied, grabbing her backpack and slinging it over her shoulder. "I just need to get my shoes laced." She bent down to tie her shoes, her fingers moving quickly and efficiently as she worked.

Then she stood up, smoothing out her uniform and taking a deep breath. She was ready. Her mom was already waiting for her in the car, the engine purring softly as Dorathy slid into the passenger seat.

As they drove to school, Dorathy gazed out the window, taking in the unfamiliar sights and sounds of the new town. She felt a thrill of excitement mixed with a dash of fear. What would this new school be like? Would she make any friends?

Holland's College was the first name she saw, emblazoned on a big, shiny sign at the entrance to the school. The building itself was a sprawling, modern structure with large windows and a sleek, silver roof. It looked beautiful, but also a little intimidating.

Dorathy's heart skipped a beat as she gazed up at the building. She felt a sudden pang of uncertainty. What if she didn't fit in? What if she got lost?

But her mom was already smiling and waving goodbye, and Dorathy knew she had to be brave. She took a deep breath, grabbed her backpack, and stepped out of the car.

As she walked towards the school, she felt a sense of trepidation wash over her. She didn't know the way to class, and she didn't want to ask for directions. She wanted to be a ghost, invisible and unnoticed.

But as she stood there, frozen with uncertainty, the bell sounded for classes to begin. The noise was loud and jarring, and Dorathy's eyes became teary. She didn't like to be confused.

Everyone around her seemed to know exactly where they were going, and they hurried past her with a sense of purpose. Dorathy felt like she was the only one who was lost.

But then she saw a girl standing nearby, watching her with a kind and curious expression. "Hi, I'm Dorathy," she said, taking a deep breath and approaching the girl. "Can you tell me where science class is?"

The girl smiled and nodded. "Yes, I can," she said. "It's just by the right, close to the principal's office." Dorathy's eyes lit up with gratitude. "Okay, thank you very much," she replied, smiling back at the girl.

And with that, Dorathy felt a sense of relief wash over her. She was going to be okay. She was going to make it through this first day, and maybe even make some friends along the wayAs Dorathy moved to her next class, she couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. Everyone kept staring at her, their eyes lingering on her face as if trying to figure her out. She shifted uncomfortably in her seat, feeling like a specimen under a microscope. "I know I'm new, but why are they staring at me so weird?" she thought to herself, trying to stifle a laugh.

Just then, she saw Freda standing at the door, a warm smile spreading across her face. "Hey, you're here!" Freda exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with excitement. Dorathy smiled back, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. "Yeah, I am," she replied, taking a seat next to Freda.

As they attended the next class together, Dorathy felt a sense of belonging that she hadn't experienced all day. They chatted quietly, exchanging stories and laughter, and Dorathy found herself feeling more and more at ease.

When the lunch bell rang, they both hurriedly made their way to the cafeteria, eager to grab some snacks and food. As they sat down at a table, Freda asked, "So, where are you from?" Dorathy hesitated for a moment before responding, "I'm from New Orlando. My mom and I move around a lot."

Freda's eyes widened in surprise. "That must be fun!" she exclaimed, laughing. "I've stayed here most of my life," she added, shaking her head in amusement.

After lunch, they headed back to their classes, chatting and laughing together like old friends. Before long, the school day was over, and Dorathy's mom came to pick her up. As usual, she was running late, and Dorathy couldn't help but roll her eyes good-naturedly.

"Sorry, baby,," her mom apologized, giving her a quick hug. "I know, it's just work," Dorathy replied, smiling wryly.

As they drove home, Dorathy couldn't help but think about her first day at school. It hadn't been so bad, after all. In fact, it had been kind of great. She had met Freda, and they had hit it off immediately. Maybe this new school wouldn't be so bad after all.

As she helped her mom with the dishes after dinner, Dorathy felt a sense of contentment wash over her. She was tired, but happy, and she couldn't wait to see what the rest of her time at school would bring.

As she drifted off to sleep that night, Dorathy smiled to herself, feeling grateful for the unexpected friendship she had formed with Freda. "My first day wasn't so bad, was it?" she thought, her eyes closing with a sense of hope and excitement. "I hope the rest of my days here are just as good."
