Chapter 2 - A glimpse of fate

As Dorathy prepared herself for school, she thought to herself, "Let's see what today has to offer." With a deep breath, she carried herself graciously down the stairs, despite her mom's frantic shouts to hurry up. The morning sunlight streaming through the windows seemed to energize her, and she felt a sense of optimism wash over her.

As she walked to school, her mind began to wander. She scrolled through her phone, wondering why she even bothered having one since she didn't have many friends to talk to. But then she thought of Freda, the friendly girl she had met just yesterday. A smile crept onto her face as she imagined their conversations.

As she approached the school gate, her mom called out, "I'll see you later, honey!" Dorathy waved goodbye, feeling a sense of independence wash over her.

On her way to the assembly hall, a guy bumped into her, and she felt a jolt of annoyance. "Such a rude brat," she thought, "he thinks he owns the world." But before she could even get a glimpse of his face, he was gone.

Just then, Freda appeared, concern etched on her face. "I see you've met my brother," she said with a laugh. "Sorry, he's a bit of a snob most times. I apologize on his behalf." Dorathy's anger dissipated as she smiled at Freda's warm demeanor.

As they entered the assembly hall, Dorathy's eyes scanned the crowded room, taking in the sea of unfamiliar faces. The day flew by in a blur, and before she knew it, the bell rang, signaling the end of the school day.

Just as she was about to leave, a tall figure appeared, searching for Freda. "Excuse me, have you seen Freda?" he asked, his voice low and smooth. Dorathy's heart skipped a beat as she turned to face him. Their eyes met, and she felt like she had been punched in the gut.

Sea-blue eyes, dark brown skin, full lush hair, and a sharp jawline – he was the most handsome creature she had ever laid eyes on. For a moment, she forgot to breathe, forgot to think, forgot to be angry. All she could do was stare.

"Excuse me?" he repeated, his voice breaking the spell. "I'm looking for Freda. Where is she?"

Dorathy's face grew hot as she realized she had been staring. She felt like she had been caught in a dream, and the reality was a bit too much to handle. She couldn't help but wonder if this was the start of something special.

The rest of the day, Dorathy found herself replaying the encounter in her mind, rehearsing ways to ask Freda to introduce her to her brother. She couldn't believe she was already feeling this way, especially since it was only her second day at school. But as she drifted off to sleep that night, she couldn't shake off the feeling that she had just caught a glimpse of fate.
