Chereads / THE SECRET PACT / Chapter 59 - CHAPTER 58

Chapter 59 - CHAPTER 58

BETWEEN CONVERSATIONS AND CARE, Kenan finally managed to spend some time with his wife, Devon. After many hours of love in the luxurious presidential suite, romance and delicious memories of their first experiences together, the two were able to enjoy each other's company. Even he felt free of the thoughts that had previously afflicted him so much, and nothing seemed to be able to destroy that moment.

At the end of it all, the two ended up in bed, already tired, but feeling like young lovers.

— Ah...! I think your wife has become a teenager again... — said Devon, sighing as he settled down next to Kenan.

— Those who only know the First Lady could never imagine someone like that behind the scenes! — he replied flatteringly.

— Yeah, you haven't lost your touch either, my love, it really was like college! — Kenan responded with a few laughs and said, while stroking his wife's hair:

— That never changes!

THEY TALKED UNTIL SLEEP CAME. Devon was already falling asleep and Kenan could feel the lethargic weight reaching his eyes when he remembered the problem he had been in before those moments. He carefully got out of his wife's arms and skillfully slid to the edge of the bed so as not to wake her.

He quickly put on his clothes and returned to the oval office. He walked in circles for a long time, his mind wandering, looking for a plausible solution. He thought of everything he could do, but no answer with the slightest sobriety visited his exhausted mind.

He only realized how long he had been wandering around the corners of the room when he saw that day was breaking. He sat down in his comfortable chair, with a cup of strong coffee that had been handed to him by a chambermaid.

He turned on his laptop to check the news that was circulating in the media and update himself on the situation. The system's home screen appeared, but in the center there was a countdown that started from the number 5, decreasing with each second.

Kenan was startled and suddenly threw his chair back, moving away from the table, as he feared it was some kind of explosive or harmful reagent.

The countdown ended and suddenly, after the screen went black, countless dramatic images and videos of war scenes appeared, with people dead, mutilated, soldiers suffering and even children in a state of calamity. All the images were of poor quality and seemed to have been compiled with the help of videos found on the internet. They alternated between each other in a sudden and crude manner, giving the video a psychotic and terrifying air.

After a short while, a caption appeared next to the video, right in the middle of the screen, where, word by word, the sentence was constructed:

Will they pay for your sins?

Kenan looked at it with wide eyes, so afraid he felt for his fragility in the face of the situation. The sentence disappeared, replaced by a date, 9/11, then 9/12, and then 10/3, and the dates changed faster and faster, alternating between scenes of injured people, war vehicles, and poverty.

Finally, it all ended when the following text appeared in the center of the screen:

"Every day..."

After that, everything went black. He then noticed that all the lights on the laptop were flashing frantically and, when he realized it, a strong burning smell spread and a light smoke came out of the device.

The computer was destroyed.
