Astrid's POV:
We'd settled quite comfortably into the nice routine of life in the sanctuary.
Kael hunted and brought game for meals ensuring we had enough food to sustain us, whilst I gathered wood for the fire.
The baby was growing stronger every day, his tiny little hands always grasping for mine whenever I held him. A gesture I didn't mind much.
Tonight, we sat around the fire as I fed the little child. Kaels sat beside me, his eyes watching the crackling flames dance around in the fireplace.
"We need to be careful," he said suddenly, breaking the silence. "We don't yet know who or what might be searching or hunting for the child."
I nodded, feeling the very familiar sense of unease that had become a constant, rising to the pit of my stomach.
I was indeed worried, but for now, I discarded my thoughts of negativity. Right now, in this moment, we were safe.
