Chapter 4 - Pioneers of a New Path

"What is the purpose of this experiment? What would happen if we ate those pills?"

At this moment, Luke mustered his guts to ask. "Well, I don't know if my questions can be answered. But the mortality rate is so high. We'll die any way, right? So why not let us die knowing for what 'cause?'"

Luke's gaze landed at the young prince. In his opinion, between these three people, the 2nd prince of the royal family must be the one who had the biggest authority in this experiment.

As for the priest and general of the army? Luke could see that they were just here to support the 2nd prince...

Yeah, support him to ascend to the throne, get on his good side, and get a slice of the cake once he becomes the king. How many stories did Luke watch in movies with similar situations like this? A battle for the throne between princes. He could guess that much...

"You don't need to know anything. This is pretty confidential and we won't take any chances. But at least, the purpose is to create another lesser path comparable to the 3 aviation paths and 12 Great Paths. But in contrast, we strive for perfection this time."

The prince smiled.

Luke scratched his head as he heard unfamiliar words. He couldn't help but feel that it was a pity that the prince didn't seem to be reckless enough to divulge more details.

What is 12 Great Paths? Aviation Paths, anyway? Does this world really have supernatural powers? If so, it is related to these paths?

Luke felt he finally had his first contact with the supernatural things in this world and the paths in the prince's mouth must be the power system of this world. However, all of this remains speculation. He needs to investigate more about this.

If supernatural powers do indeed exist. Doesn't this mean that this world is much more dangerous than Earth?

If he could really survive this ordeal. He must walk one of these so-called 12 Great Paths or Aviation Paths in order to survive in this world, gain a foothold, and have the power to protect his daughter!

Klay, on the other hand, frowned with his eyes piercingly straight aimed at the prince. "Again? Creating more monsters? Isn't it enough to have 43+ lesser paths after repeated failure of experiments? You're creating abominations that harm the people. You three are no less than criminals for this debacle." He said with a cold snort.

Luke raised an eyebrow at this. The other three men looked at Klay in surprise.

How dare this guy talk like this to the prince? Isn't he afraid that he'll die first without undergoing the experiment?

However, much to Luke and the three's surprise. The prince just gave Klay a deep look and didn't respond at all. The priest snorted coldly at Klay but didn't say anything. While the general of the army has a mocking grin directed at the 2nd prince.

What's going on? Does the prince and the two know Klay? Luke found it weird they let that slide.

Maybe this Klay actually has a powerful background. The only confusion that contradicts this is, if so, why does Klay volunteer for this dangerous experiment as a participant?? It doesn't make sense at all.

Luke looked at Klay first, then at the other three, then at the box in the ground.

The box was 4 inches long and seven inches wide. There are intricate carvings etched on its body that give off green luster. In the center, a golden lock with a keyhole was placed. On the top of the box, a web of spider skull was drawn.

This box looks ominous at first sight. Luke don't think the pills inside are of any good.

He sighed and said. "So, who wants to go first?"

Eleven caressed the X scar on his cheeks gleefully. He walked near the box, crouched, and scrutinized it with a pair of cold eyes while licking his lips.

He looked at the others behind him and a wide grin was plastered on his face that had reached his ears.

"If you guys aren't willing to. Then I'll gladly do it first."

Luke snorted coldly at Eleven. "What a pervert." He didn't really have a good impression with this guy. He felt that this guy has some screw loose on his brain and it ain't functioning properly.

Who can blame him? This guy who massacred his family also behaves like a mentally ill patient in an asylum.

"Or do you want to go first?" With a faint crazy smile, Eleven tried to provoke Luke.

But Luke just shrugged.

That won't work! Am I so stupid to seek my death this early? At least, let me watch the outcome first.

Luke thought so in his head.

"Don't talk to that guy. Unlike the three of you. Eleven, like me, don't have the same desperate reasons you have. I'm here not for my sake. As for that crazy Eleven? He's here just for fun." Klay, who was beside Luke, warned with solemnity.

Luke looked at Klay weirdly. Just as expected, this guy must have a good background. His purpose isn't something like theirs at all.

Actually, Luke has no reason to be here too. What could he do? He just woke up in this body in such circumstances? Now, he could only play along.

And since he inherited the emotions and will of the original host of this body. The least he could do, since he would do it anyway, was to do it well, right?

The 2nd prince, the priest, and the general of the army took a few steps back, and a serious look appeared on their faces simultaneously. They guarded the gate with vigilance.

The prince put his hands in the small pocket of his pants with an alert gaze and, pulled out a metallic key, threw it at Eleven. "Here..."

Luke immediately distanced himself. Same with the other four. Just from the behavior of the priest, general, and the prince. It wouldn't take a genius to figure that things are about to turn bad. They needed to be prepared for what was about to happen even though except for the prince and the other two. All of them didn't have a clue about what was about to happen.

Lesser Path, ain't it? Maybe these pills are the variables for someone to step for the lesser path that the royal family is attempting to create.

Doesn't this mean that as the beta testers or first experiments? They're essentially walking a new path. They're about to become pioneers as long as they survive this ordeal!

Of course, since it's a new 'lesser' path, it's full of uncertainty, unknown, and an equal proportion of danger!

Luke thought so.
