Axel's artwork revealed a depth Emily hadn't known existed.
Each piece told a story – of pain, of struggle, of hope.
Emily's favorite was a painting of a broken wing, mended with threads of gold.
"It's beautiful," Emily said, her voice barely above a whisper.
Axel's eyes locked onto hers. "It's us."
As they explored the studio, Emily discovered sketches of her.
"You drew me?" Emily asked, her cheeks flushing.
Axel's smile was tender. "I see you, Emily."
Suddenly, the door creaked open. Axel's mom, Rachel, entered.
"Axel, I—"
Rachel's gaze fell upon Emily, and her expression faltered.
"Who is this?" Rachel asked, her voice laced with concern.
Axel's protectiveness kicked in. "This is Emily. My girlfriend."
Rachel's eyes widened. "Axel, we need to talk."
Axel's jaw clenched. "What's going on, Mom?"
Rachel hesitated. "It's about your father..."
Axel's eyes darkened. "What about him?"
Rachel's voice trembled. "He's coming out of prison."
Axel's world began to crumble.
