Grace Woods winked at Kate Stone. "I'm off to touch up my makeup. You two... carry on, don't mind me."
Hearing Grace's pointed remark, Ivy Green finally realized they weren't alone in the room, and that Senior Kate's friend was nearby. She'd been too relaxed just now, unconsciously acting coquettishly toward her senior.
It was a bit embarrassing in front of others. The flush that had just faded from her face threatened to return.
Kate abruptly said to Grace, "I'll go with you."
Grace forced a couple of dry laughs. "I said you don't need to mind me. You two continue your... private time—I mean, girl time." Her correction only made it more awkward. After a moment of silence, she added, "Well... I'll be off then."
With that, she hurriedly left the scene.
That look Sister Kate gave wasn't one of someone wanting to accompany her to touch up makeup—it seemed more like she wanted to find a secluded spot to settle accounts.
