Faced with this question, Su Shen was too irritated to answer her and continued looking through his phone contacts. He was determined to find out the identity of the man who sent Yun Zhiyi the ring that evening.
On the other end of the line, his subordinate replied nervously, "Sir, the auction house has its rules. The identity of the big spender who bought the ring is strictly confidential. They won't disclose a single detail, and it sounds like this buyer has a substantial background."
The subordinate continued cautiously, "The people at such places come from all over the world, and it's a mixed crowd. The auction house's staff keep these identities secure, so it's impossible to get any leads."
Su Shen's frustration reached a boiling point. "If you can't handle such a small matter, why do I even keep you around? Yun Zhiyi—who could she even know? Make me a list of all the men on Jin City's rich list who could be involved. I want to see just who she's fooling around with behind my back."
The subordinate hesitated, then ventured, "Sir, whoever could afford a piece like that ring must have an incredible background. If we accidentally provoke a powerful group, the consequences could be serious for you and even for Mr. Su."
The subordinate reasoned privately that maybe Su Shen was misinterpreting things, yet didn't dare say it outright. He didn't want to risk his pay.
Although initially furious, Su Shen's anger seemed to subside at his words.
With a more composed tone, he replied, "Just find out. I don't care what connections or status the man has; I want answers."
"Understood… but, sir, if the man is someone truly untouchable, how would we handle it?"
This wasn't difficult to guess; there were only so many people with that kind of financial freedom nationwide.
Su Shen could no longer suppress his anger, snapping, "Just investigate already! How many men could she know better than me?"
The call ended, and he threw his phone aside.
Seeing this, An Yirou dried her tears, sensing Su Shen's irritation.
"Sweetheart, what's going on?"
Su Shen, leaning against the headboard, answered with a solemn expression.
"Xiao Rou, there's something more behind Yun Zhiyi's survival… This whole thing may not be as simple as we thought."
His gut told him that the night Yun Zhiyi survived, someone must have intervened. This whole chain of events was far too suspicious.
An Yirou's face went pale as she heard the implication behind Su Shen's words.
The two of them had begun to sense a deeper threat. They just didn't know yet that Yun Zhiyi was pretending to have amnesia and had already gathered evidence of their affair.
"Brother Shen, are you saying that some important person saved Yun Zhiyi that night?"
Su Shen nodded. "Since her return, it's been bothering me. How did she manage to escape from such a remote forest all by herself?"

Returning to the scene of the crime was always risky, but with lingering questions, they felt it was necessary. Su Shen hoped that Yun Zhiyi's survival had merely been a stroke of luck.
An Yirou scoffed, "Yun Zhiyi doesn't know anyone of importance. She's been in the Yun family for over ten years, and I know her circle better than anyone!"
