"If there were truly a powerful figure backing Yun Zhiyi, given her personality, she would have already kicked me and my mother out of the house instead of enduring all that quietly."
Despite her words, the reality of attempted murder was not something to take lightly.
Though she thought Su Shen was being overly cautious, An Yirou didn't dare underestimate the situation. After all, it was her idea to eliminate Yun Zhiyi once she and Su Shen became romantically involved. With her jealousy sparked, she had begged Su Shen to help her get rid of Yun Zhiyi.
The two had specifically chosen a dark and stormy night, expecting that the rain would cover their tracks and allow them to rid themselves of her for good. But, unexpectedly, so many complications had arisen.
"Xiaorou, I'm tied up with wedding preparations these days. I'll leave looking into Yun Zhiyi to you," Su Shen said, frowning slightly.
He had no time for distractions. Keeping An Yirou happy while also maintaining Yun Zhiyi's trust was exhausting. He had finally started to see her in a new light and hoped she wouldn't disappoint him. But if she was secretly seeing another man and making a fool of him, he would not let her off so easily.
Hours passed. At dawn, the investigator An Yirou had hired for a hefty fee to check the site reported back, confirming that the scene had been completely cleaned up, leaving no trace behind. There was nothing suspicious to find.
Putting down her phone, An Yirou adjusted the V-neck dress lying on the side.
"Don't worry, the scene is clean as a whistle. There's nothing for Yun Zhiyi to pin on us."
Su Shen nodded, getting out of bed to wash up. After spending the night at the hotel near the auction, he wondered how his fiancée Yun Zhiyi had fared. He had deliberately ignored her last night to keep her on edge.
But as he rose, a call from his father demanded his return for an urgent meeting.
"Xiaorou, I'll arrange for someone to take you home. I'm going to check on Yun Zhiyi."
An Yirou sulked, feeling a pang of jealousy, yet resigned to the fact that Yun Zhiyi's survival meant she could only remain in the shadows. To fully claim Su Shen's affection, her pregnancy alone wouldn't be enough.
Finally, An Yirou clung to him and claimed one last lingering kiss before reluctantly letting him go.
Meanwhile, in the luxurious hotel suite, Yun Zhiyi was slowly waking from a restful sleep.
To her surprise, Li Yuye had turned out to be quite a pleasant bed partner.
Next to her, Li Yuye seemed to be in an even deeper sleep.
She carefully slipped from his embrace, stepping softly to the bathroom to freshen up and get dressed. She then returned briefly to the bedside.
"Li Yuye, this is goodbye. Take care."
She traced a soft line across his chest, feeling a brief pang. After all, he was her first. Gazing at his fiercely handsome face, she couldn't resist bending down and pressing a gentle kiss to his cheek.
And with that, she knew it was time to part ways with this "crime lord" for good.
Leaving a note on the bedside table, she tiptoed out: "Mr. Li, farewell forever!"
As she closed the door softly behind her, Li Yuye's deep eyes opened, dark and unreadable. He turned to the note she had left on the nightstand.
"Farewell forever?"
A glint of amusement flickered across his gaze as his fingers traced the spot where her lips had briefly touched his cheek, the warmth lingering faintly.
"Farewell forever?" he murmured to himself. "Yun Zhiyi, you really think that's the end?"
