Chapter 22 - Into the lion's den

Yun Zhiyi?

The woman who seemed desperate to avoid him, wanting to be miles away from him, had actually come looking for him? Li Yuye took a drag from his cigarette, his deep, cold gaze sharpening.

Feng Ze, waiting at the door, was puzzled by his master's silence and continued his report.

"Sir, she's waiting by the hotel room door now. She seems to have something important to discuss and insisted on seeing you tonight."

Yun Zhiyi was determined; the guards had already tried to persuade her to leave, but she was unwilling. Sensing the cold aura in the lounge, Feng Ze figured he might have disrupted his master's mood.

"If you're unavailable, sir, I'll go turn her away and get her to leave immediately."

"Wait…" This time, it was Ye Yan who spoke up.

He arched a mischievous brow, his gaze gleaming with interest. "She's already here—sending her away would be a shame. Feng Ze, don't you think your master's missing something?"

Ye Yan's gaze fell on Li Yuye's tall figure, as though calculating something.

Feng Ze didn't respond, only glancing at Li Yuye, waiting for instructions.

"Let her in," Li Yuye said, his tone icy and restrained. "If she has something to discuss, she can come here."

"Yes, sir." Feng Ze nodded and left the lavish suite to retrieve Yun Zhiyi.

Outside the hotel room, Yun Zhiyi had been waiting for quite a while.

The luxurious corridor was nearly empty, save for the guards stationed nearby. Li Yuye wasn't someone she could just meet on demand! She held the diamond ring firmly in her hand, determined to wait as long as it took.

"Miss Yun." Feng Ze approached her with a few black-suited guards, his tone respectful. "Sorry for the wait. Our master has guests, so he hasn't been able to return. He invites you to join him if you don't mind."

His manner was sincere, almost too courteous.

If she hadn't known about Li Yuye, Yun Zhiyi might have been fooled by the polite gesture. But Li Yuye was anything but polite—domineering, persistent, with an air of authority that his closest aides likely mirrored.

Tonight was her chance to return the extravagant ring and be rid of Li Yuye for good. Thinking this, Yun Zhiyi followed Feng Ze to the opulent suite.

"Our master is inside; please go ahead," Feng Ze said, holding the door open for her and motioning for her to watch her step.

As she stepped in, she was greeted by dim lighting and soft background music. Two men were seated on the leather sofas inside.

Yun Zhiyi walked in, glancing at the table scattered with empty bottles.

"Mr. Li, I apologize for disturbing you this late," Yun Zhiyi said directly, getting to the point. "Thank you for the gift, but it's far too generous, so I…"

She was about to say she couldn't accept it when Li Yuye's voice interrupted her.

"Come here."

His voice, laced with a hint of intoxication, was as cold as ever, yet tinged with something suggestive. He gestured to the empty seat beside him. "Sit down and talk."

Yun Zhiyi looked at the leather seat beside him, an image from that night flashing through her mind. Her palms started to sweat, but she mustered her courage. "To be honest, I came to return this ring."
